3 division winners, 4 wild cards

best overall record gets a bye into the divisional round

remaining 6 teams each play one 3-game series to advance

the 3 teams that host those series have to pick their opponent in a live selection show

I like:
-that MLB is willing to acknowledge that they need drastic changes in order to appeal to younger fans
-the idea of the best overall record being highly rewarding
-a playoff format that includes 3 game series. This is what teams have been doing all season, that's what baseball mostly is.

I question:
-How are they going to fit in all these extra games without running into weather problems in cold cities?
-What the conversion is going to be like when a sub.500 team makes the playoffs.

It gives more teams opportunity to be in playoffs, and I like that it's 3 game

Unfortunately the Mariners will still never see it

I think they should bump it to 6 first. 7 is a weird number for a playoff bracket.

I am actully a fan of the change. More teams is good to me. I enjoy playoff baseball more than 90% of regular season baseball.

And as for sub 500 teams, I thought I heard a stat that like only 3 teams over the last 100 years would have been under 500 to make it. So really, not going to be an issue.

under the proposed system:

Royals and Rays would have made it in 2017
Marlins would have made it in 2016
Mets would have made it in 2014

Only had to go back 6 seasons to find 4 instances of sub.500 teams that would have made it.

No idea what the number would be if you went back 100 years, but it's definitely more than 3...

Honestly, my favorite part of the whole proposal was getting to pick the team you play. That would make things more juicy when the favored team loses.

This would be good for creating rivalries or adding to them as well.
