Pete, you da man. This is what we like to see in Philly. Doesn't matter if you're a role player or a rising star, he's treating you the same when it comes to shit like this.

After a scorching start to the 2016 season, the Phillies have found themselves in a minor slump, dropping five of their last eight games. Phillies manager Pete Mackanin has taken this opportunity to set the tone for his team.
After hitting a slow grounder back to the pitcher in the seventh inning last night with the game tied 4-4, Odubel Herrera gave up on the play and slowly trotted towards first.
Mackanin immediately went over to Herrera and spoke to him, and then did the unthinkable, benching his lead-off hitter, who was 3-4 on the night with an RBI.
While many may question the call, it was actually the right choice. Hustle and perseverance are some of the most important things in sports, and key reasons as to why the Phillies have been so good so far. If you're not going to give it your all, you're not going to play.
Mackanin defended his decision after the game, saying:
"One of the ingredients to our success to this point is the fact that these guys play with energy, they play hard and we're training them, basically, to play the game the right way. Not running is not the right way. And that's why I did it. It's more important to me to set that tone than to take our best hitter out of the lineup."
He went on to say even more later on.
Mackanin is setting the proper tone and culture for the Phillies, and it's things like these that have led many to say that the Phillies manager is the early leading candidate for Manager of the Year.
Keep fighting, Pete.
