Former big league pitcher Tommy Hanson is in a coma in an Atlanta-area hospital, according to a report from Zach Klein of WSB-TV Atlanta (links to Twitter). Hanson is reportedly fighting for his life after suffering “catastrophic organ failure,” but little else is known at present about the situation.

Our thoughts are with Hanson and his family and friends. We join all those around the game in expressing our very best wishes and hopes for a full recovery.

Hanson, who is still just 29 years of age, made his name with the Braves. The big right-hander spent four seasons in Atlanta, rating as one of the game’s brightest young starters in his first two seasons in the majors. But a shoulder injury in 2011 halted his trajectory. In recent years, Hanson has pitched in the Angels, White Sox, and Giants organizations, though he has not appeared in the big leagues since 2013.

i wonder if it was a drug OD or something

yea thats what im thinking. 29 year old athletes just dont come down with shit like that unexpectedly.
my cousin died a few months ago from this, OD'd (on i dunno what) and he was in a coma, his organs shut down, and he died.

what i learned from that tho, is that he was at a buddys house, his buddy found him on the floor of the bathroom foaming at the mouth, called PEOPLE before the cops to figure out what to do, then he finally called the cops.
so god only knows how long my cousin had OD'd, and was laying there before he finally got help. he was already in a coma when they found him, put him on life support, and his organs were already dying by that point.

if it was a drug OD for hanson, he prolly wasnt found for a while.
