Let's think optimistically.

AROD had a full calender year to rest his joints and injuries. Knowing what I know about AROD, it's highly unlikely that he just sat around and got fat. He was probably spending a lot of time in the gym and working on his skill set, while avoiding the stress and strain of a full season.

Cashman more or less said "I expect nothing from AROD, he's been a year removed from the game, was declining before the suspension, and I doubt he can play a position anymore, hopefully he can DH." What people don't realize is that Cashman just removed all expectations on AROD. He essentially did a jedi mind trick to get the fans / press to expect AROD to suck. Now there's less pressure on him.

So with that in mind, I'm expecting an above average year from him. I think he will DH in 85-90% of his appearances and that's a good thing.

ARod would have still been one of the best in the game, even if he wasn't on performance enhancing drugs.
I feel the same way about Bonds.
Too bad we haven't really seen him play a in couple years due to injuries and suspensions.
Hopefully he comes back and tears it up a bit..
He's a guy I'm rooting for since everyone else is rooting against him.

I think 48 hrs is a reasonable expectation. Maybe .287/.404/.550

Lets just put it like this, if he's in the 20 / 80 range, I think he will exceed everyone's expectations. We have to pay him regardless, so if he puts up that kind of production, i think everyone will be pleased and he'll effectively be a difference maker, just not on as large of a scale.

20/80 would put him like top 30 in the league in production.
how wouldn't this be a large scale difference maker

I'd sign up for 20/80 from A-Rod right now. That would be absolutely awesome considering how power-deprived the lineup is.

you guys sound like philly fans about ryan howard, rolf.

edit: mind you he had a .690 OPS, thats top 30 in the league?

josh hamilton had better avg/obp/slg (and ops)
you saying ryan howard is a top 30 producer?

the fuck is going on here.
