Why exactly did you think the Phillies weren't willing to trade Abel?
He's not their best pitching prospect, and the only reason they gave him the starts they did this season was to pump his trade value. He had a few great starts before getting killed.
The Twins apparently wanted Painter who is off limits. Phillies shut the door on that convo. But Abel wasn't ever in their current window which made him expendable. Win-win for both teams but Phillies did well filling a major need and not hurting their current window.
