@tuckerblair89

We really need to get Mark Reynolds. That .198 was a fluke and his defense is improving every year. I'm not saying he is the #4 hitting corner infielder we have longed but he is by far the best player we have a legit shot at getting. 30+ HR is almost a guarantee, 40+ HR is realistic, 50+ HR is doubtful but still an actual possibility ... other than Luke we don't have any other 25 HR hitting players on the roster we need his power.

Last season he had a .320 obp even with his sub .200 batting average. Wieters didn't even have a .320 obp and Jones had a .325 ... lol. He also did good with RISP something that we choked hard in last season.

He also works the count very well. How many times last year did we see a starter against us have 70ish pitches going into the 7th inning?

He is #1 on my realistic board (I wish we could get Beltre or Wright for 3B but it isn't realistic).

It's probably because there was no football team in Baltimore when I was a young kid o.O most of my family all likes Steelers or Eagles.

Looks like we are trading David Hernandez and Kam Mickolio for Mark Reynolds.

Hernandez and Mickolio both could be future closers. I hope Hernandez gets another chance to start in Arizona.

VM what about the trade for us?

inb4LOLRAVENS

Reynolds for relief pitchers. Yes please. I understand people love David Hernandez, but an above average 3rd basemen is hard to come by. We have control of Reynolds for 3 years as well. We most likely will sign a reliever now anyways (not including Koji, who i think we resign as well)

-thats my feelings on this trade. I will miss DH but i know that relievers are a dime a dozen.

The official vM thoughts on the Reynolds trade.

Mickolio -Inconsistency at it's finest. One night he will look like unhittable and the next night he can't throw the ball over the plate. He has the stuff to become an above average reliever and possibly a closer but I don't know that he ever will become one.
Hernandez - Okay as a starter until the 5th / 6th inning before he got tired and would get shelled. Great reliever throwing 98-100mph. I was at Arrieta's first game when DH closed it out by throwing a fastball every pitch, never will forget the dominance he displayed in that game. He has the stuff to be a dominant reliever and I will miss him.

Reynolds - Great power, great discipline (check his pitches per AB and the amount of walks before you start with the strikeouts), lots of strikeouts (but hey wouldn't you rather a strikeout then a double play? [have to try to be positive here]), has really come along with his defense and is an average fielder now (maybe he can get even better), his .198 average was a fluke I doubt he hits lower than .230, he gets on base a lot, he works the count good.

Overall I love the trade. We lost our future closer but you have to give talent to get talent. Reynolds is an above average 3B and by far the best one that we had any real shot at getting. He isn't the great middle of the order hitter we have longed for but he is a hell of an upgrade over Wigginton/Tejada/Bell.

yea i think we agree on the trade then. Honestly i'm not worried about the loss of DH at all. Plus i think he will be a great fit in Arizona. Lets just hope that we dont stop here and make some more moves.

I saw on WNST that we are in serious talks with Derek Lee.

WNST isn't the most reliable of sources ... I hope it is true though.

Roberts, Markakis, Lee, Reynolds, Scott, Jones wouldn't be the worst top 6 in the league I guess ... far from good though.
