Oh, but we have the first overall pick in the 2013 draft in 17 days (June 6).

I'm talking about the 2014 MLB Draft next year. I have not really scouted the top prospects in that draft but I want the first overall pick, not second pick.

We can become the first MLB team to have three straight overall number one picks starting on opening day in 2016 or 2015.

and still get the #1 for the next year... get it

MLB's youtube channel adds videos like a week later. LOL

This was the play where Miguel Cabrera nearly won the game with a walk-off, three-run double. I thought it was a walk-off grand slam off the bat. Astros were clinging to a 7-5 lead with two outs in the bottom of the 9th. Bases juiced for the best player in the game.

It was Brandon Barnes' 27th birthday also.

We're so bad but we just won two out of three games against the Royals. We're also 4-3 in our last 7 games and two of those losses were by 1 run to a very good Pirates team on the road. Not to mention a game we stole at powerhouse Detroit prior to that.

I do want that first overall pick in the 2014 draft but man the Marlins better get Giancarlo Stanton back soon.

the worst pitching staff that a Major League team has assembled in over a decade.

Going into the weekend, the average hitter going up against Houston’s pitchers had posted a .370 wOBA. For reference, Ryan Braun has a .374 wOBA this year, while Robinson Cano is at .368. That’s the kind of production that hitters have had against Houston’s pitching staff.

holy crap that's almost impressive!

I'd personally take Appel, that extra year in college can only help, he's also a Houston native, and pitching is our weakness in our farm system atm.

Yeah baby! I'm soooooo excited! Now we have to sign him. Scott Boras is his agent but Appel is an Astros fan from Houston.

Astros make Mark Appel top pick

The Houston Astros selected Stanford pitcher Mark Appel with the No. 1 pick in the Major League Baseball draft Thursday night.

Appel was considered a possible top pick last year, but Houston passed on the hometown kid and instead chose 17-year-old shortstop Carlos Correa from Puerto Rico. Appel slid to Pittsburgh at No. 8 but turned down a $3.8 million offer and returned to Stanford for his senior season.

The move paid off for Appel, a hard-throwing righty with a fastball in the mid-90s (mph). After going 10-4 with a 2.12 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 106 1-3 innings this season for the Cardinal, the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Appel is expected to fetch about $2 million more than he passed on with the Pirates.

"This is just a surreal moment for me and my family," Appel said in an interview on MLB Network. "Just knowing that I'm going back home is a real honor."
