theres no doubting that gomez was the better fit for the mets and a better overall player with higher upside, but i like the cespedes deal more for the mets THIS season.
now in the offseason, they can move one of their big arms for a superstar bat under team control for a while, yet still go for it this season. sucks to see fulmer go though.
lol, thor has pitched like 10-15 big league games, wheeler is out a season with tommy john, and matz has made 2 or 3 big league starts.
yea i feel comfortable calling em all aces.
Thor has pitched 10-15 big league games, but I wouldn't consider him or Matz an Ace just yet. Wheeler is out and Matz has been riddled with injuries. The only ace I would be comfortable calling is DeGrom and possibly Harvey. But I always said Wheeler could be the best pitcher over anyone on our team if he reaches his potential. Thor is a close second. These two can throw some really filthy stuff, I remember seeing Thor doing some workouts, and he clocked in at 98 MPH on almost every pitch.
Sick.

Definitely a rental but we needed a hitter. I'm glad we kept Wheeler
Definitely see Cespedes as the type of guy who would to be the go to bat, and he looks like a guy who would embrace the spotlight, which he certainly can do if he resigns with the Mets.
Great pick up, was excited to have Cespedes, wasn't that excited at first for Gomez, because of giving up Wheeler/Flores. But I got used to it, and was waiting with anticipation, you can only imagine the shock that was on my face when the deal fell through.

Wheeler told Mets general manager Sandy Alderson that he knew there was a chance he would be traded over the ensuing hours. But all things being equal, Wheeler impressed upon his boss, he'd like to stick around.
"He really expressed his desire to remain a Met, his excitement to be a part of the organization and be a part of what is happening here," Alderson said. "He acknowledged it was a business, but at the same time wanted to express his feelings to me. I can't say that it was dispositive of what took place because I acknowledged back to him that yes, it's a business. But again, you go back to [the Gomez trade] and even this conversation, and we're talking about human beings. We all develop an attachment to each other in whatever capacity we serve. It's hard. I appreciated the fact that Zack reached out."
In sum, Alderson said, Wheeler's phone call had "quite an impact" on the Mets' decision not to trade him. As recently as Friday morning, according to a source, the Mets were discussing deals to acquire Reds outfielder Jay Bruce, with at least one version of those talks involving Wheeler. The pitcher even acknowledged in a Thursday telephone interview that there was a strong chance the Gomez deal would not be his last inclusion in a trade.
Very happy Wheeler reached out. I know Alderson said he didn't think it meant anything, but deep down Alderson probably knew that Wheeler's desire to play as a Met here meant a lot.
Let the haters do the hating, but if any of our pitchers ever stay healthy, a lineup of DeGrom, Harvey, Thor, Matz, and Wheeler would be getting people sweating.
