This season is probably done.
Well, notes for next season:
-- I hope they can see some of their big names on the pitching staff come back. Could have really used Lilly this year and losing Billingsley right as he got hot sucked, of course. I wonder who they keep between Beckett, Capuano, Harang, etc. but I really hope to see Capuano improve and pitch more consistently next year. I really like Fife and believe he could be a very solid starter with more experience. Bullpen looks pretty damned good, honestly, between Belisario, Jansen, Tolleson (who I think will improve and be a very good reliever), Choate, Guerra when he returns, etc. I'd like to see a solidified closer but I really like the thought of Jansen/Belisario as the eighth and ninth inning pitchers.
-- Offense...this team needs to get it together offensively. To be honest I liked the way the team rolled with Dee Gordon as the leadoff man. Finding out who will leadoff will be a big decision in the off season, I think, as I doubt they'll pursue Victorino. I like Gordon leading off and Mark Ellis/Elian Herrera/Ethier, etc. in the two hole with Kemp (who hopefully returns to form) hitting third with Gonzalez and Ramirez following. I really like Cruz, he is probably among the brightest points of this season. Dude hits well and is an extremely clutch hitter and I'm glad he got his shot this year. AJ Ellis is a fine catcher although I hope they have a decent backup for him next season as it seems he just got overworked this year.
Bottom line is that they are just too damned talented to have this kind of record. Pitching wise they should be very solid next season but it will be a big waste if there offense never gives any support. I fully expect the playoffs next year.
