Cespedes has really be a pleasure to watch.
Such a good signing. I bet a few teams are wishing they jumped in now.
He really has been. Nobody thought he'd have such an immediate impact, though he is already 26.
His numbers don't really do him justice, he's missed plenty of time because of various injuries, and he's been playing through a wrist injury most of the season.
That being said, we could have had a scary good roster if we paid Willingham and kept Gio. We wouldn't have Tommy Milone, but I'd take Gio over him if the choice was there. Milone comes much cheaper, but Gio's only one year older.
Of course that's not the way it's done over here. We rarely dish out big money, which really made signing Cespedes a huge surprise, especially including the uncertainty in how he'd play.
Pitchers will get to know him, but every at bat for him is practically against someone he's never seen. He's already displayed great ability to adjust at the plate, and he's really a pleasure to watch, on the bases he's quick and his defesne is above average.
With that being said, it's crazy how many guys have stepped up for us. Chris Carter has displayed such maturity since trying to come up to the bigs a year ago. Brandon Moss, Coco Crisp, Reddick, Gomes, even Donaldson have come up big for us when we need it most. And of course the pitching has exceeded expectations for such a young staff.
The O's and A's definitely are showing huge promise. So much better to watch than having the same old teams pay their way to the playoffs.
