Lmao. These Mets fans thinking Wheeler is worth a top end player.

The guy hasn't performed in the majors AND just had TJS. Wtf do you think he's worth? Bruce is a fucking awesome deal.

Not that enamored with Bruce... Gomez would've been perfect for us.

Typical of other people to hate on our prospects. Don't know if you can say he never performed in the majors... Terry Collins noted concerns that Wheeler was tipping his pitches in late June, he pitched to a 2.71 ERA over his final 16 starts. Had issues with walks and control, but if he can fix that issues, he's going to be a great pitcher in the future.

Extra year of control, and no "hip problems", lmao
Wheeler is essentially Matt Moore 2.0. Just a bunch of hype he's never lived up to. Guy walks too many people.

How can you say he's Matt Moore 2.0? He's pitched one "full" season in the league and has complete nasty stuff, he just needs to work on control a little.

Regardless of the extra year of control, Wheeler was about to net us a top tier player in the league.

Jay Bruce is not that, he doesn't fit on our team and he's a career .250-.260 hitter. I'd rather not give away a top pitching prospect for a 2 WAR hitter

Career stats: 3.50 ERA /3.77 FIP
Over 9K per 9IP last season. 3.04 2nd half.

Bruce has put up less then impressive hitting #s inside that bandbox he plays in Cincinnati. I don't know how he would be in Citi Field. He just screams Jason Bay all over again, and that's not something the Mets want to deal with. At this point, I'd rather just a rental WR like Upton who we could probably get without including Wheeler.

I'd take Wheeler as my fourth starter next year any day of the week.

How can you just exclude the fact that he just had TJS, and assume he's going to be the exact same when he comes back? Who's to say that he won't get injured again during his rehab and have to go under the knife for a second time? It's not like that hasn't happened before.

As for control... Easy to say he can just work on it. Fuck, remember Ricky Romero and that amazing year or two he had? All of a sudden the fuck starts walking six a game.

I get that you almost got a better player for Wheeler yesterday .. But to say he's worth way more than Brude is ludicrous.

Yes thank you. Upton or Cespedes.

I think those both are attainable.

Hes been lowering his walks every year. I mean yeah its easy to say fix it, but Wheeler's only problem is control and location. He has some nasty stuff..

Isn't that the point of value in baseball prospects?!? This guy has proved that he can be a good major league pitcher. We've seen plenty of pitchers go through TJ and come out fine/better. See: deGrom and Harvey.

Either way, Bruce is not an amazing player. He would not make that much of a difference this year and especially in the long run. I think Wheeler holds more value as a trade piece and as a 4th pitcher if he stays.

Isn't Carlos Gomez a way better player than Bruce? I'd say so, then I'd also say that Wheeler is worth a much better player then Bruce.

You're doing an A > B , B > C, so A > C thing here.

You're discounting the major factor here ...
It's the Mets.

Keeping fingers crossed we don't pick up Jay Bruce... I would rather stand pat, pray we make it to the playoffs with the roster as is, and consolidate what our most inherent upgrades required is. Don't sell low on Wheeler, because Wheeler when healthy can be our 2-3rd guy, which is pretty damn valuable.
