The race for the 1st overall pick in 2014

1. Marlins 5-18
2. Astros 7-16
3. Padres 7-15
4. Mariners 9-16
5. Cubs 8-14

Too early right now but the Marlins seem to be a legit threat to us. But we should lose our third game in a row tonight against the Red Sox in what should be an easy four-game sweep for Boston. I don't see the Astros winning many games over their next 40 or so games. Maybe 7 or 8 total. I'm pretty sure the Marlins will pick up some wins coming up.

I feel confident the Red Sox (4 times), Yankees, Tigers (7 times), Rangers, Angels (7 times), Athletics, Orioles and Rockies (4 times) will all sweep us coming up.

LOL, the only winnable games we have in the next month and a half are the Mariners, Pirates and Royals, but all three of those teams by comparison, are way better than us. We can definitely beat the Mariners though (4-2 against them this season and our only two series wins this year).

In the mean time, I can't wait for our second straight first overall pick this June.

Red Sox took the lead as usual. Another loss on the way for the Astros. I hope the Marlins win, tied 2-2 in the 5th with Cubs.

LOL, we may lose 30 games in a row. For real. What a tough schedule coming up for the Astros.

So we got swept in the four-game series against Boston. Big surprise.

7-2, 7-3, 8-4 and 6-1 were the scores. Not a close game in any of them.

7-18 record. Looking forward to the three-game series in the Bronx coming up. At least the Marlins beat the Cubs today. They lost three out of four against the Cubs but every game was close. The Marlins should have won two or three of those games.

The race for the 1st overall pick in 2014

1. Marlins 6-19
2. Astros 7-18

I'm only going to include these two teams because the other bad teams will surely win a lot more games.

Comparing the schedules coming up, the Astros have the toughest schedule in baseball. The Marlins will win some games.

The Astros don’t have the worst record in baseball at the moment, but their 7-18 start has them on track for 116 losses. That’s a mark only the cynic of cynics would have predicted. Four of the seven wins have come against Seattle, and the team is 0-for-4 against Boston and 0-for-6 against Oakland.

Opponents are hitting nearly .300 against the pitching and hitters are striking out at a record pace. Throw in a team that has committed the most errors in the American League and, well, you get the picture.

In February, GM Jeff Luhnow said the the team “would outperform expectations”. Last week, Luhnow exclaimed: ““We’re going through an extremely rough time. This is an unusual situation. Never in my career have I seen anything even remotely close to it.”

In fact, if you look at the Astros' next 39 games... All of them are against good teams, which includes six games against the first-place Royals and three games against the first-place Pirates which I didn't even mention before -- assuming those would be the easier games we played but that isn't true at all.

Considering our current 4-game losing streak (all against Boston), it wouldn't shock me if we lose 43 games in a row but you know this is baseball and anybody can win on any given night. So okay, we'll go 10-33 at best and 5-38 at worst during these stretch of games.

The good news: We play the Seattle Mariners again starting on June 10. We also play the Cubs for three games not long after that.

LOL, I'll be surprised if the Astros don't go 40-122 this season. Curt Schilling predicted 49 wins for the Astros and he was being generous I think. I hadn't closely glanced at our schedule. I just don't see any wins coming up. I just have no idea where Curt Schilling gave us credit for those extra 9 wins. I'm not seeing it on this schedule. We only play the Seattle Mariners so much this year.

I want that first overall pick in 2014. What are the Astros doing? 3-0 lead over Andy Pettitte after one inning. Carlos Pena RBI single and then a two-run double by Carlos Corporan. That's plenty of run support for Lucas Harrell I'm afraid. Dang. I wasn't expecting a win tonight. Hopefully the Yankees come back and win and the Marlins beat the Mets.

Marlins beat the Mets 4-3 in 15 innings but lost Giancarlo Stanton to an apparent hamstring injury in the bottom of the 10th. Stanton has been placed on the 15-day DL and is likely going to miss at least 30 or 40 days. This means the Marlins are not going to win very much moving forward.

I now have my doubts that the Astros can finish with the worst record in baseball this year but we'll see.

LOL, there are now more teams in the mix for the first pick next year. I can't help but include Toronto and San Diego for now.

The race for the 1st overall pick in 2014

1. Marlins 7-19
2. Astros 8-18
3. Blue Jays 9-17
4. Padres 9-16

The best thing the Astros can do is lose 10 or 15 games in a row. We're not going to pull this baby off with surprise wins like last night. The only team that really worries me are the Marlins. The Blue Jays, Padres and even Cubs, will all get hot and win a lot more games. Those three teams are stacked and loaded with talent compared to the Marlins and Astros.

Ugh. Marlins down 1-0 in the top of the 6th against the Mets. Come on Fish! Better play harder without Stanton. LOL

Astros are trailing 2-0 against the Yankees in the bottom of the 3rd.

Both teams appear to be in full tank mode for that 2014 first overall pick. It may go down to the final game of the season.

Adda boy Marlins. Three wins in a row against the Cubs (one) and Mets (two) even after losing Giancarlo Stanton to what will be a 30-day DL stint.

The race for the 1st overall pick in 2014

1. Astros 8-19
2. Marlins 8-19
3. Angels 9-17
4. Blue Jays 10-17
5. Padres and Cubs both 10-16

LOL, the Angels and Blue Jays both have the talent to win 100 games or more. They'll wake up sooner or later. I'm just glad we finally tied the Marlins for the worst record. But we'll soon take control of our destiny: The first overall pick for a third straight year.

I am pumped and excited for this June's draft. The Houston Astros are on the clock...

The Astros remaining schedule is the toughest in all of baseball. They shouldn't win many games coming up this entire month.
