Also, im just a reyes homer but he has posted up higher WAR's than bruce over the past couple of years

i think the only way we get bruce now is a wheeler + x deal so

edit: Is it bad that im hoping gomez doesn't perform for the stros so the mets don't regret this no-trade fiasco?

Are you really trying to step to me. Going for 4 rings in 6 years. Mets have, what, 4 rings in 60 years? Rolf

Enjoying the Leake B) 😎

lol no, but im saying sometimes overpays are necessary. The giants may be doing that for leake now, but you niggas have a chance at winning 4 rings in 6 years....go for it.

wheeler won't be able to pitch for a minimum year's length. And when he comes back he probably won't really be back until the season following that. We need players (mainly bats) that can perform now. I'm willing to overpay (if it even is an overpay)

Yeah but you're moving backwards in value

Gomez > Bruce > Reyes in terms of who the Mets should trade for. That's what's so ridiculous about this. At the time we traded wheeler, Beltran was by far the best offensive player available.

yeah in retrospect we probably fucked up with that gomez fiasco. I'm hoping it doesn't haunt us. But that doesn't mean we should stash wheeler....we need a bat. Unless we're forfeiting this year and just doing everything in the offseason

also: bruce won't really have a position....we either lose conforto or we lose tejada with either reyes or bruce coming in. grandy can't play center anymore

fuck man gomez would've been a good fit. fucking lagares needs tommy john he throws like a girl rn

I slept for a few hours. Did you guys already post the Astros and Padres deal being discussed?

Sources: Astros-Padres believed to be working on "something big." They've talked Tyson Ross and Craig Kimbrel. San Diego could use a CF

I don't want to jinx it though. Seems like they were discussing a lot of moving parts. Jake Marisnick (which makes sense now) and even former first overall pick Mark Appel. Hopefully not A.J. Reed. He's the only real power-hitting first baseman and DH "slugger type" we have at the moment in the minor leagues. But with the way things going we'll probably end up dealing Reed.

Seems like the Astros have have been fixated with Craig Kimbrel and Tyson Ross. I didn't think they'd try and add another starter after the Mike Fieres acquisition. I'm still not sure how they can land a stud closer like Craig Kimbrel. Especially with the Yankees and Blue Jays after him.

We already blew two of our sexy prospects in the trade with the Brewers. I'm guessing the Astros will try and land one of those guys. Kimbrel would make our bullpen elite. It's a good bullpen already but closer Luke Gregerson has struggled quite a bit lately. Gregerson doesn't have what I would call "dominating stuff" to blow guys away with ease.

This is what I'd call a closer who can blow you away and pumps you up for the ninth inning...

I'm still a little down we couldn't land Cole Hamels or David Price but this team is pretty damn good, with the core players being very young, regardless. This team is being fueled by three super rookies: Carlos Correa (20 and not even legal to drink a beer yet), Lance McCullers and Preston Tucker.

I just wish we could actually land one of the big fishes in the sea that every team is after, like a Craig Kimbrel. I'll go to sleep again feeling excited only to find out he's been traded to the Yankees or Blue Jays in six or seven hours. LOL, watch...

Carlos Gomez was highly sought after but the Mets didn't even want the two-time all star center fielder. Come on, what's up? They out-bid us for Carlos Beltran after the 2004 season but now they don't want a poor man's Carlos Beltran? His hips were 100 % fine according to the Astros team doctors. He's as healthy as any player the Astros have on their team.

It's a dream buddy. I know it sounds good now. We'll see what happens. They'd have to part ways with A.J. Reed, Mark Appel and Jake Marisnick probably. Possibly even a Tony Kemp or one of our other promising outfielders at Triple-A. Seems like the Padres want a center fielder.

To reiterate: No word yet that deal between Padres and Astros is done, or close. We do know they are in active talks.

Both HOU and SD front offices being silent. Actually characteristic of them both. Seems to be a strong possibility this happens.

Thee Padres and Astros are having what appear to be serious discussions involving Tyson Ross and Craig Kimbrel, according to multiple industry sources. Jake Marisnick and Mark Appel are believed to be involved in the talks as well.

It is currently unclear how close the sides are to a deal, though it is believed Ross and Kimbrel would go to Houston in exchange for Marisnick, Appel and other prospects if a deal was completed. Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports first reported the talks.

Now I can't sleep until it's official. I doubt it happens now though. Maybe around 8 or 9 AM. It better or else the Yankees or Blue Jays will end up stealing Craig Kimbrel away. It's okay if we can't land Tyson Ross. I'd be more than happy just with Craig Kimbrel.

Not just the Yankees and Blue Jays. Peter Gammons mentioned earlier on his radio podcast that the Nationals are a darkhorse team in the Craig Kimbrel sweepstakes. That worries me that any of those three teams can steal him away at the last minute today.

The Astros shouldn't allow too much time to go by before completing a deal. 12 hours left until the deadline. Craig Kimbrel averages a 97 MPH fastball. The Astros only have one hard thrower in their bullpen who constantly hits the upper 90's, Josh Fields. To call Craig Kimbrel an upgrade for the Astros bullpen would be an understatement.

The San Diego Padres may end up trading five players today. I just hope the Astros end up with their best arms.
