Currently Blake Beavan holds the fourth spot in the rotation after Hector Noesi and before Kevin Millwood. Millwood’s and Beavan’s performances this pre-season have forced the Mariners to move Hisashi Iwakuma from his accustomed role as a stater to the bullpen for long relief situations. After the announcement, some voiced their opinion that Beavan was terrible last season and shouldn’t be in the rotation at all. Looking back at his Spring Training performance thus far, I’d say he deserves a shot. In his 15.1 IP, Beavan has given up four runs and has a WHIP of 0.91. Iwakuma hasn’t been terrible but it could be the best option to allow him to get accustomed to the game in the bullpen, with the option to move him into the rotation if an injury or poor performance cause someone to be replaced.
is that so
