Probably.

In other news, I am quite intrigued by the 4th OF battle.

Jai Miller
Matt Angle
Endy Chavez

It's going to be quite the battle... go with speed + power or speed + defense?

i'm totally rooting for Jai Miller (Endy already made the team)
He is fucking huge man...Not surprised at all he hit 30 HR in AAA last season. I think angle could use another year in AAA. Wouldn't hurt him

Endy got a major league deal? I thought his was a minor league with invitation?
I mean, still, if it is a major league deal, we can still cut or trade him before the spring is up.

Orioles Sign Infielder Wilson Betemit

By: Tucker Blair  Published: January 23, 2012 10:16 pm

The Orioles have signed infielder Wilson Betemit to a one year deal, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun.

Betemit, 30, has a career .269/.336/,448 batting line over nine seasons with the Braves, Dodgers, Yankees, White Sox, Royals, and Tigers. Last season with the Tigers and Royals, Betemit posted a .285/.343/452 batting line with a .381 BABIP and a .340 wOBA.

Betemit can play multiple positions but  is not known for his glove. A majority of the games he played in last season were at third base. He will also provide the Orioles with another bat off the bench and could also factor into the DH spot.

This signing could also be a sign that Brian Roberts is not going to be ready for the start of the season. That would make Andino the most likely second base candidate, meaning Betemit could help take over the utility role along with Matt  Antonelli and possibly Rule 5 pick Ryan Flaherty.

here is my reasoning (posted this on ON forums):

meh...

Not a fan honestly. I like Betemit, but just see no need for us really signing him. He can play 3rd,2nd,1st and DH for us, but he has a terrible glove. He is a decent bat, and a good bench guy, but the Orioles already have Antonelli, Andino, Flaherty, Davis as guys that can do all those things too. I guess I just would have rather given them all a shot before signing Betemit. It's not a terrible idea, but I just think the Orioles could give those 200-400 AB to a younger guy and let them see what they can do. It's not like signing Betemit puts us any closer to becoming a winning team. And he is not the same as the Endy Chavez signing in my opinion. Endy provides a few things the club didn't have.

The Orioles have announced that they designated RHP Rick Vandenhurk for assignment, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. This move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly signed  Wilson Betemit.

Vandenhurk, 26, pitched only 25.1 innings for the Orioles. He posted a 6.04 ERA with a 1.579 WHIP. Vandenhurk was acquired by the Orioles in 2010 for Will Ohman
