O's going to reinstate the old logo again... so smiling bird with cap on replaces the cardboard cutout oriole of now.... didn't know that... cool

The Orioles have hired Toronto Crosschecker Gary Rajsich to be their new amateur Scouting Director, according to Dan Conolly of the Baltimore Sun.

Rajsich has worked with GM Dan Duquette when both were with the Boston Red Sox.

The Orioles signed 17-year-old Colombian right-hander Yeizer Marrugo to a deal with a $120K bonus, according to Ernesto Armenteros D. of El Universal (Spanish link) and passed along by Eddy. In the El Universal story, O's scout Jorge Franco says that Marrugo's fastball topped out at 91 mph when they recently scouted him and the youngster has the talent to make it to the majors in five years.

Teagarden, 27, has a .220/.286/.417 career line with 16 home runs in 392 career big league plate appearances over the course of four seasons. The 2005 third rounder has a .262/.374/.488 line in parts of six minor league seasons. He'll back up starter Matt Wieters.

While the Orioles had just one catcher -- Wieters -- on their 40-man roster, the Rangers had three of them. Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba were ahead of Teagarden on Texas' depth chart, which made him expendable. The Orioles have a full 40-man roster and will have to clear room on it unless they're sending someone from their roster to Texas.
