if he becomes as good as tucker thinks he's going to be why wouldn't he be worth 20M per year?

as of right now he's a great defensive catcher who at best is a #6 hitter in a lineup. i don't think he ever becomes a #3 or #4 hitter, don't think he's ever worth that contract.

that doesn't mean the yankees, sox, phillies, etc. won't think he is worth it though.

Obviously Tucker is optimistic about his ability since he's an Orioles fan. I personally don't think he'll be a $20m type player though tbh. If all the big market teams are completely fucked at catcher by this time, then who knows. But I find that very doubtful.

according to tucker he's already top 5. if his offense continues to improve he should at least be top 3 i'd imagine. how much will a top 3 catcher be worth you think?

Weiters is elite in every aspect of the game except when hitting vs LHP-- which obviously is a very real flaw lol. If he ever figures that out, he can realistically become an elite player.

He's definitely top 5 right now. But really, how impressive is being top 5 at that position right now? There's still guys like Posey, Santana (are they keeping him at C?), Montero/Montero (?), etc. that are going to improve. Look at it this way, Joe Mauer is the highest paid catcher right now at $23m/year. He got that contract after a ridiculously productive season with an MVP to go with it. To break $20m Wieters is going to have to do basically the same unless the market for catching is extremely poor at this time.
