Pedro Martinez is the only pitcher in MLB history to post an ERA+ of 200 or better and strikeout at least 10 batters per 9 IP in the same season. He did it 4 times.
yearERA+ K/9
Pedro 1997 219 11.37
Pedro 1999 243 13.20
Pedro 2000 291 11.78
Pedro 2002 202 10.79

I'll take Maddux's 4 straight cy youngs, consistency and longevity over Pedro's peak years. Best pitcher I've ever seen.

If you're going most feared; I'd have to say Randy Johnson.

Maddux is the best "pitcher" I've ever seen and the most dominant I've seen. Pedro has 8 years of dominance; where as, Maddux and Johnson have 16 & 10 respectively.

Maddux was dominant for 15 straight years from 1988-2002 which is why I gave the nod to Maddux.

I'd post Maddux's cy young years but if you were any type of baseball fan you should already know what he did 1992-1995 including in the strike shortened years where he was just above 1.50 era. It's only ever been matched just recently by Kershaw.

Pedro had only 8 good years in his career.. Maddux had 15 straight years.

I'd rather have 8 years of the best than 15 years of just great.

Maddux had 6 years of era's under 2.25 including 2 at 1.56, 1.63

Pedro had 5 years of era's under 2.25 including 2 at 1.74, 1.90

Maddux in those 6 years pitched 1,429 IP (with a strike shortened 94',95' season) while Pedro in those 5 years plus his next best season (2005 season 2.82 era) Pedro threw 1,273 IP.
