You're in guild Chicago. I wouldn't expect an unbiased response.

This guy has had great "potential" for 5 years now. All he's shown is defensive prowess. No one argues that he isn't good defensively. He just can't hit.

Please prove to me that he can hit.

69 on the cubs
(wRC+ - Runs per PA scaled where 100 is average; both league and park adjusted; based on wOBA)
he is decent on the basepath but is horrible at the plate.
you guys keep saying that we look at stats and not his actual play, when all u guys link is shitty sabermetrics.
dude is nowhere near what people think of him, or at least those that dont actually watch him play and realize hes overpaid as fuck

solid 2 month sample of bad luck. hes a slightly above average hitter while also being a great baserunner and elite defender, meaning hes worth 20mil a year during his prime years.

many other teams wouldve given him 20mil/year, and still would with his 2 month bad luck stretch

You can't really say he isn't worth a contract like that when he was basically a young future star when he got the contract.

He was a consistent 5-6 WAR player that was in his early 20s.

It might be a slight overpay but if you look at some other players that got deals like his it isnt too bad. Heyward isn't a franchise cornerstone but he is still a young all star.

If it wasn't for the Pirates being really stacked in the OF I'd love to see Heyward out there.

i wouldnt consider him an all star. the only reason he would ever make it in the last 3 years is because of fan voting.

ok, i think weve established that no matter what anyone says or proves otherwise, you think heyward is worth less than a 4th

the vast majority of knowledgeable baseball fans, however, understand the true value of a player, while also understanding how crazy expensive players' contracts are nowadays.

its not 1998 anymore. 4th starters make well over 12mil/year. look at the leake/shark contracts. if you want to talk about how baseball players in general are getting paid an obscene amount of money, ill be on your side.

but heyward is worth every bit of his contract based on market value alone. well respectfully agree to disagree.
