Why are people saying "oh Braves wont have to take on Morse contract or much of Oliveras".. why does money matter? there's no cap.. plus Olivera is going to cost a ton after this.

Can someone answer this? Why do people talk about contracts like saving money matters with no cap
Not like we saved anything anyways.. wood was on contract for like 5 more years, Olivera will be 35 by that time

What do you mean we'll never know

If cargo rakes for the next year and a half it was a mistake, if he gets hurt/doesnt produce it wasnt

True. I'm leaning towards Cespedes now or Upton at this point, and good thing the Padres are in town. :bouncy:

Because even with no cap, owners/organizations have a certain number that they're capable and willing to spend

I don't get why the braves would give up so much for a reliever and a 30yr old prospect.

And the Dodgers get the Marlins competitive balance pick?

Braves get the pick. Dodgers cover Oliveras ridiculous signing bonus, so we get him on like a 5year $32M contract.
So I understand what you're saying about the ghost cap number, but it's essentially saying the Dodgers and other high payroll teams respect their fans and want to field a good team, whereas the Braves are saving their management money at the cost of a shitty team for fans.
Also, reports are that Peraza is being overrated, that he's just a singles guy. They are saying Wood's mechanics will eventually lead to Tommy John or result in him having to change mechanics (i.e. tommy hanson, kris medlen).. and that if we get 3-5 solid years from Olivera that it's a win for us.
They also say Olivera has been killing it overseas and at every level in Dodgers organization, and that most likely will be debuting in the majors for Atlanta shortly.

The Rangers had to give up more premium prospects just to get more money from the Phillies, although I think that's a product of JD trying to cover his ass on the Choo deal.
No cap room but it's interesting how $$ can sway an extra prospect or 2

Is the competitive pick worth that much? Like, the only reason we jumped into a deal was for that pick.
We could have gotten Gomez for Wood and Peraza since that was a better offer than the Mets did..

I think the Phillies came out as bandits.

The more I read the more I see it made sense for both teams, Alfaro is out for the year with a severe ankle injury and hasn't had a healthy season in his career. Nick williams is good but he's not Mazara.
I was upset about getting rid of Jake Thompson but we got him in the Soria deal so it's a nice little flip, and the others guys we gave are just depth guys with a chance to be solid.

I like the Money we got in the deal and getting rid of Harrison, It wouldn't surprise me if he got hurt tomorrow and never pitched again.

It reminds me of the Braves/Rangers rental of Teix trade.. where we gave up Andrus/Salty/Harrison/Feliz
