Well honestly if we want to land a big free agent we have to offer a significant more amount of money than a lot of other franchises. I mean there just isn't a young big bat free agent the caliber of Prince Fielder coming out any time soon. You sign him now so you are set up for the future. I mean I feel better about giving Prince a fat contract than I did Richie Sexson ROFL

Yes, but I would feel better splitting that big contract up amongst players similar to that of Smoak that give you cheap opportunities for plus. I'm not going to be upset if we sign him because he is a young stud. I just don't want us to massively overpay for him.
