Showing your baseball knowledge I see.

The passed three years combined he has a negative dWar.

He's definitely a good defender but he isn't as elite as you all make him out to be.

Both of them are top 2 in the league. I wouldn't disagree with taking Trout over Harper. I just would prefer Harper because I prefer his bat. That doesn't mean he's better.

Meh I only said it was solid.

He only has 1 year with a negative dWar and you cut off his +13 year.
Playing an average to above average CF is way better than a below average COF defense.

Im not overly familiar with the current consensus on how great everyone else is rating his defense atm so the overrated bit could very well be correct and agreeable from my POV.

I think Trouts bat is better too though. It certainly has been much better so far. (again, outside of this year)
He wins the 3 year split if you want to use that again.

I'm talking about who I'd rather have now not the previous three years lol.

Harper had 1.100+ OPS this year. Trout never came close to that so you can't really say his bat is better.

Harper is as good as he played this year too. You gotta remember that not everyone starts out elite like Trout did. Harper took a few years to get there which is very reasonable since he is still only 23.

But like I said before I don't think either stands out from the other. It's mostly preference.

Is everyone forgetting that one year dWAR is like the most volatile and not telling stat?

Well in that case I heard trout is having a great BP as we speak so his bat must be better.
Why are you talking about how well he did months ago? B)

Looking at past years is more predictive and indicative than just one year.
He is almost certainly not going to make a habit out of putting up 1.100+ OPS every year.
You've taken by far his career year and proclaimed he is that good, when regression is expected even if he were to play now.

I'm following along just fine thanks.
If you want to clear something up lmk.

If the question is who was statistically better offensively this season alone without looking at context the answer is Harper.
That doesn't mean he has a better bat right now or going forward. Looking at past seasons is very relevant in evaluating them and predicting how good they will be.

Just because Trout played better in the past doesn't mean he is better either...which is my point.
