I'd argue that Colon is one of the most entertaining hitters in the game today. He gets the biggest ovation, thats for sure.

haha he really is.. I used to hate him so much (still dislike facing him) but he's such a character that it makes the game fun.

Also, on topic, ARod needs people on base when he comes up in the 9th.. not sure his average in late innings but I've seen him get a hit in the 9th the last 3 times I've looked (including last 2 games)

So if you love watching him bat so much, how come you don't want him to be able to bat more than once every 5 games.

There's quite a difference between entertaining and successful lol
(granted he has had some decent at bats this year, in his standards)

That's not where his main value is, but it's still part of the game of baseball.

As the Mets broadcast said today, Colon was embarrassed about how he did at the plate last season. What did he do? He worked on it and worked on it and he looks much improved from last season, albeit still not very good. And that did not take away from his pitching. If 42 year old, 280 pound Bartolo Colon can pick up a bat every 9th batter during his starts... Every pitcher should be able too. You are almost giving them a pass by not having them practice their hitting/bunting/etc.

It isn't just simple managerial duties, it's a lot more complex to manage in the NL all around. Not to mention that the NL have much faster games (which people point as the lack of DH being a huge reason), and having faster games is much much better for baseball.

Colons batting an amazing .146 this year after all that work hes put in.
They should get a pass. They grew up as fucking pitchers. They pitch. If its so much of the game then why would they work so much on their pitching than on their hitting.

Its basically enjoying watching the circus come to town for 10% of a professional baseball game.

More complex doesn't mean that 95% of the time managers aren't going to do the same thing that people watching at home would do in the same situation.

Yea thats what I said at first. "They bat below 150." And the 2 of them responded with how Colon got a hit today.

No that's were you're wrong.... They grew up pitching, hitting and playing defense. In no way has a little league player ever gotten a pass from taking reps at the plate because he's a pitcher... in highschool, pitchers still hit.. in college, there is kind-of a DH, but a lot of pitchers still hit. The only time pitchers really stop hitting is when they hit the minors for an AL affiliate team.

Pitchers who are going to play at the major league level hit in high school because theyre usually the best players on the team. So they let the teams DH for anyone instead.
They hit in little league... I fucking hit in little league, does that mean I should show up to Yankee stadium and take batting practice against Betances?

Are you really going to try to claim there isn't a distinction between hitters and pitchers in baseball. That they are all the same and fall into the category of baseball players?

I'm saying that players should know and play all of the core aspects of baseball that we learn when we grow up. This isn't like asking a QB to play LB, this is simply giving guys a pass on what other players can't just pass up. It hurts the game of baseball at all levels.

Most pitchers can hit, they just don't practice it anymore (except bunting) and get very few looks in-game, so of course their quality at hitting is going to decrease.
