Rangers pitcher Brandon Webb has some inflammation in his rotator cuff and has been taken off his rehab assignment.

Webb experienced discomfort in his right shoulder during a bullpen session Thursday and after getting evaluated by Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister was diagnosed with the inflammation and prescribed anti-inflammatory medicine. He will continue to throw some on the side, and the club is hopeful this is a just minor setback. The Rangers must wait at least seven days before starting a new rehab assignment.

Webb said via text that he wasn't getting much out of his throwing in between starts, but that he'll continue to throw while taking medicine. Webb expects this to be a minor blip and hopes to have a bullpen session at some point next week.

This comes a few days after his first official start since Opening Day 2009. He took the mound in Double-A Frisco on Monday and had command and velocity issues. He gave up five runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings and his fastball was around 84 mph. He said after the start that he knows he must get better in both areas before he can be promoted.
