It really just hit me how screwed the Jays are now that the Orioles got Vlad, Reynolds, etc
Signing after signing and the sum of it just hits me now

Well its not like the jays didnt get better either.
It will be a fun season to watch both our teams grow.
Eventually one of us has to beat to yanks and sox....right? lol

I would have to disagree with you.
In terms of of 'getting better for 2011'. You can argue we got worse.
If you are talking about 'getting better/better off/greater future potential that goes beyond 2011 (2012+)' then I would agree.

Off the top of my head: Lost Marcum, Wells, Downs, Gregg
I listed ones who made an actual positive contribution to the team. Obviously the benefit is that those guys mentioned above are now being paid pretty large sums of money right now that the Jays don't have to worry about.
We didn't get much over 2010 and I am kind of happy as well as kind of sad for that. This hopefully means a potential competing team in the near future.

I do however would at least to see the Jays put up some sort of competition like the Orioles are attempting to do by signing veterans like Vlad. There is no question that the team is a step-up from last year for you guys.
I felt the Jays could have done the same (Not for any great amount) but someone like Manny Ramirez would be fun to have.

Yea i guess you do make a good point about marcum wells and downs.LOLgregg, i didnt want him at all :( , but he still did have a pretty good season (numbers wise at least, i know he was a pain to watch).

You know whats funny though, people (keith Law, etc) still think everything we did was pointless. people still think reynolds move was pointless, and that vlad is blocking reimold and pie (who cares, they aren't very good anyway)
But yea, its tough that you guys didnt sign any big names like that, but I really do like the path AA is leading the Jays down, albeit a very headjerk/crazy/wild path lol.

Gregg was pretty damn impressive in my mind. I was projecting a lot worse but anything would be better than having unexperienced closers....or bj ryan.....

The moves were not pointless in my mind. You can only be patient for so long with your previous prospects; Reimold isn't getting any younger, he is at the age where development should have occured a while ago.
Somewhere between the lines you have to sign guys like vlad and reynolds who show 'look I have had previous success' and let them be the model of success for the underachievers. And if for some reason they never come through, then vlad and reynolds will have to be the everyday guys and people like reimold could very well be sent packing.

Its going to be fun though like you said to watch both teams grow. It makes it unexpecting and curious for the fans to see the team play. Few years back the Jays had one of the better bullpens in MLB. Now we have a questionable one at best but have guys who can hit HRs (Which was lacking in the past)

And thats really what I have been saying the whole off-season. I am really tired of waiting for these prospects and if we can go out and get a veteran to play the position, why not?
I think you guys adressed your lack of speed this year as well. Also I wouldnt be surprised if the jays had a solid rotation/bullpen this year. Plus they have some trade pieces if they aren't in contention
