Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman, who ranked ninth in the system entering the season, has been ordered not to leave the Dominican Republic after his involvement in a fatal car accident, according to a statement released by his agent.
Guzman’s SUV collided with a motorcycle in his hometown of La Vega on Tuesday, killing the motorcycle driver.
Guzman, 20, was held for questioning and released after posting a $13,500 bond, but barred from leaving the country, according to the statement released Thursday.
The investigation of Guzman’s involvement could take six months, according to the statement, meaning Guzman could miss the beginning of spring training. Guzman’s lawyer said the ballplayer was not drinking the night of the accident, which occured at 1 a.m.
