It was the second ejection of the season for both Pettis and Washington. Pettis was tossed on April 17 and Washington was ejected on June 26 against the Mets. The ejections left hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh to coach first and Jackie Moore to handle the managing duties.

It meant that 80-year-old Jack McKeon was managing the Marlins against 72-year-old Moore.

Apparently a little kid (4yo) got shot at the fireworks at the harbor and a man was stabbed.
