The Atlanta Braves have acquired backup shortstop Paul Janish from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for pitcher Todd Redmond. Janish is currently playing at triple-A Louisville, and Redmond has been a career minor leaguer, currently playing at triple-A Gwinett.
Janish should be considered purely a backup, as his .237/.332/.391 slash line this year at triple-A tells us. He has major league experience, having spent the last four seasons with the Reds. He's a decent defender, and could give the Braves a little more bat at the shortstop position than Jack Wilson likely would.
Redmond has been toiling away at triple-A for several years. He got his first call up to the Majors earlier this year, but never appeared in a game. He should be a durable back of the rotation starter or long reliever for a Major League team.
