Think your hopes are a little high on a pitcher the angels didn't even want.
Also it's cute you have hope for a whole ass year on painter being a #1 prospect, because he won't be able to even prove himself til '25, meanwhile an equally good prospect in taj will already be the ace of their staff by then.
Sure, because the Angels are known for being a well run organization who always make the correct decisions with players and all
Either way, Lorenzen is having a very good season. 3.58 ERA in 18 starts, All-Star this season, and in the month of July he was terrific with a 1.14 ERA in 4 starts (0 ER in 3 of those 4 starts). It was a no brainer move for the Phillies, giving up a prospect who was never going to see the field because the Phillies already have their infield for the next 10 years between Turner, Stott, and Bohm. They get another reliable arm who can start or also come out of the bullpen (which he has experience doing).
Lorenzen will join Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez, Taijuan Walker and Cristopher Sanchez in what Dave Dombrowski has announced will be a six-man rotation. Once the postseason comes around it's likely they go to a 4 man rotation, and Lorenzen will be an odd man out, but he'll still give them a reliable relief arm out of the bullpen (or depth starts in the event of injury).
As far as Painter goes, yeah it's a shame with his injury. We expected him to solidify his spot in the rotation this season, but he's only 20 years old (2 years younger than Taj) so we've got time. Phillies have him AND Mick Abel (#6 pitching prospect in MLB) so they've got some arms for the future to look forward to.
