Metsmerized Online’s Michael Mayer is reporting that catching prospect Tomas Nido is en route to Miami and could be activated prior to tonight’s game. according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
In a corresponding move, the Mets have placed catcher Travis d’Arnaud on the 10-day disabled list with a partially torn UCL. Surgery is possible for d’Arnaud, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic.
Nido, 24 tomorrow, had a cup of coffee with the Mets late last season, logging 10 at-bats and recording three hits.
The backstop appeared in 102 games last season for Double-A Binghamton, batting .232/.287/.354 in 404 plate appearances.
Sucks for Travis, but I think like Montero, this injury is a blessing in disguise... We will no longer have to keep waiting for him next year. I don't see him on the roster after this year... Too injury prone, and not even good enough to justify keeping him.
If Nido can at least show some semblance of hitting, KP and Nido should be our C going forward. Offense/Defense.
