Your rotation could take you to playoffs, but I don't think those additions make the team significantly better.

We had one of the worst offenses in the league. Our team was 35-5 when we scored over 4 runs (4 runs is the average in the league), are you saying that these acquisitions do not make the Mets offense better then average?

good luck competing with the Dodgers for that 2nd wild card spot rolf

We're only one game out of first in our division, I think our eyes are set on that. This acquisition for sure would make that true.

Once/IF we get into the playoffs, in my opinion, our rotation makes us a team that no one wants to face. A 7-game series against deGrom/Harvey/THOR/Niese?

Acquisition of those guys + return of d'Arnaud and eventually Wright make the Mets a playoff team for sure.

hard to say "for sure".

youd have to beat out one of the giants/dodgers and/or 2 of the cardinals/pirates/cubs to make it.

tough year for the NL. best chance may be for the division but that doesnt seem likely either.

Yeah okay...

I guarantee you if we had an actual offense instead of the anemic one we had... Plus with numerous injuries to our best offensive players in Wright and D'Arnaud, with Duda also slumping led to absolutely no run support for our pitchers..

But anyways, I bet if we make it to the playoffs, ain't nobody trying to see us especially our pitching rotation. You guys are high as hell if you seriously think the Mets can't make any noise...

This.

I like how people shit on the Mets, but I guarantee most fans would drool at the chance of having what we got...

No one is going to want to see us in a 7 game series if Duda, D'Arnaud, and a few hitters can score enough runs.

Well.. I think if we get CarGo, we can definitely be divison leaders or make the WC. It doesn't matter, if we actually get an bat, our chances of making the playoffs just jumped to 50%.

As Tyler Clippard said about the Nats, "their very really beatable."

All I'm saying is the acquisitions of Kelly Johnson, Juan Uribe, and possible Carlos Gomez isn't the boost that pushes the Mets to be an intimidating opponent.

Well, think what you want.

All I know is I've seen games where Harvey pitched a shut out game, but our bullpen allowed one run, and our offense couldn't score one back to at least tie, which led to Harvey's loss/tie.

Our offense HAS been a lot worse than you guys can honestly think. Seriously, one game we stranded 25 batters on base. 25?!?

At this point in the season you are right. But if the Mets went into the season with this offense (assuming Gomez becomes a Met) and our rotation/bullpen, we would have most likely a substantial division lead over the Nats.

No shit....That's why he is saying that those upgrades aren't going to make you a title contender...because the offense is shit already....You're missing the boat.

Granderson is starting to hit and so is Duda. Once d'Arnaud returns, along with the acquisition of Uribe, Johnson and hopefully Gomez.. the Mets have a very formidable offense.

We don't need a great offense to be a threat, we just need an average one. Numbers don't lie, when we score Over 4 runs a game, we are 35-5 (that number has changed over the past week). There are 16 teams that score over 4 runs a game.

Well that's his opinion. My opinion is that the Mets are a title contender once we get CarGo, and bring back D'Arnaud, and the return of Wright in short spurts would also be amazing.

Going 35-5 when scoring over 4 runs isn't title contending numbers? Anyways, whatever, this is a trade deadline thread, and I'm just anticipating the acquisition of CarGo happening sooner or later.

Also Johnson/Tribe aren't bad players... Their rotational players, but they can score on offense... All we really need is AVERAGE, not superb offense.

You can win championships with superb offense as long as your pitching is excellent.

Thank you, agree with all of this.

Our offense has been BELOW average. We just need to be at least average or slightly above average to win close games.
