If the AL teams finish where they are now, the Astros would have the 3rd best record yet get the most advantageous postseason position.
They will get homefield against Cleveland, then face the winner of Sox/Yanks ALDS. If the wild card team ends up prevailing in that ALDS (which isn't unlikely considering the teams seem evenly matched), then Houston lucks their way into home field advantage again in the ALCS. Meanwhile, the Sox/Yanks would both have to go through 2 harder teams (each other, then Astros).
Just goes to show how dumb the new WC system is that the 2nd seed is better than the 1st. At least the previous format had a rule that 2 teams from the same division couldn't face each other in the ALDS, so they avoided this problem.
