help me understand why they are getting rid of hanley?

they are going to have to pay him the $ any way. and his numbers dont look that bad to me.....

Hanleys fake attitude is a big reason he was released imo

His effort is pathetic
He cant field
Has absolutely no discipline at the plate
JD wants to play and hits better when fielding
Kept Nunez and Holt because of their ability to play basically every position
JBJ cant hit but is an elite fielder at least
Moreland great bat, but poor vs. Lefty. Great fielder.

Get whatever value you can for him now, save 20 million next year since he would meet at bats -- benching him would cause a lot of negativity in the clubhouse imo

He made it easy playing like poo in May

I always thought the sox were going to try to trade Swihart but now I have no idea.

JBJ would'nt even have a job if he weren't an elite outfielder, I saw some stat that he was one of if not the worst hitters in baseball over a longgggg period (outside of one of his streaks probably).

I think Holt is overrated too. I like Nunez and Moreland generally.

Do you have any faith in Pedroia? I'm not sure...

More faith in Peddy than Hanley, but thats not saying much
Our fielding at 2B is a joke. Nunez has been AWFUL.

JBJ has always been a shit hitter. Should of traded him a long time ago...might as well keep his defense for now.
I dont really want Nunez, Holt and JD fielding too much. I love defense. Not like Nunez and Holt make a big impact with the bat

I really hope Swihart gets playing time. Even if he has to play some LF

his numbers are below league average and if he gets another 300ish PAs his $22M option for next year vests (assuming he also passed a physical at the end of the year).

Cora said Holt and Swihart will both get starts at 1st base but mostly will be Moreland i believe i think i heard.

Also sounds like the Hanley decision was more Cora-s and not dombrowki-s.

I'm fine with the move...I always wanted Hanley batting like 6th or 7th with his swing approach
If they benched him to prevent him from getting his money next year, that was going to cause issues in the clubhouse

To me, it's clearly a financial move -- and if we don't spend the 22 million next year....the move makes 0 sense
