New era of continuous 100 loss seasons?
2013 and 2014 could be losing seasons. I expect a winning season in 2015 and contending for the AL West division championship by 2016. Our starting lineup in a few years is going to be stacked and our starting rotation is going to be solid as well. Not to mention our defense is going to be one of the best in baseball. I wouldn't mind snagging another first overall pick in 2014. We've got the 1st pick again in June of 2013.
We'll soon have a big three in the rotation with Jarred Cosart, Mark Appel and Lucas Harrell.
I'm exited to see the best infield in baseball very soon -- Matt Dominguez at third base, Carlos Correa at short stop, Jose Altuve at second base and Jonathan Singleton at first base. We've got one all-star already (Altuve) and I believe Correa and Singleton will be all-stars in the future. And this Matt Dominguez kid came out of nowhere last year and was flat out raking with the bat.
The Astros got some exciting prospects on the way up. Even outfielders George Springer, Arrel Ovando and Domingo Santana all look like they are on the fast track to the big leagues despite their young ages. Like I said, 2015 and 2016 the Astros will be fun to watch.
Just need to play out 2013 and 2014. Take our lumps, keep growing and let the young guys take over for the next decade.
Houston hasn't had a farm system this good in a very long time. There is a reason they had three minor league teams in the playoffs this year. LOL, I would argue those teams could have beaten us. The talent is in the minors right now for the Astros.
EDIT - I didn't even mention Delino DeShields Jr. A top-rated second baseman who will likely have to make the move to third base because Jose Altuve is going to be a long-term fixture for Houston -- likely a 6 or 7-time all star player. I think DeShields Jr. can replace Matt Dominguez (maybe). Worst case senario we have to trade one to make room for the other.
Houston has an embarrassment of riches (talent wise) in the minors right now.
