Once again box score warrior, he's 26 and just entering his prime.

Watch the games not the box scores

I do watch every Astros game so if Jason Heyward becomes an Angel I'll see him closely 16 to 19 times a year.

Carlos Correa's WAR was 4.1 in 2015. Based on that he isn't even a top 50 player but yet he's viewed as one of the top young talents in the game. Yet he just had a monster rookie season despite not being called up until June (out-homered and out-RBI'd the great Jason Heyward in 2015 with a lot fewer at-bats). Had just turned 21 and many believe he'll become one of the best players in baseball in the near future.

Am I supposed to be impressed when Correa's WAR reaches a lot higher? Which I'm sure it will as he plays full seasons and establishes himself as a legitimate MVP candidate. Dallas Keuchel has the 12th best WAR in baseball, fourth among pitchers. But what does that prove? He just won the American League Cy Young award. WAR isn't needed for me to know he's the best pitcher in the American League.

So what if he's 26? The young talent in today's game (at all positions) is pretty remarkable. The future of the MLB is in great hands. Carlos Correa is going to put up amazing WAR over the next several seasons but that's the last thing I judge him on.

You act like the dude is batting .220 for his career

I understand what you're saying. Maybe you can help me appreciate WAR moving forward.

I'm probably going to like it a lot more in the future. As the Astros now have good players and will have good WAR numbers soon. Keep in mind, the Astros sucked from 2006 to 2014. So WAR was not something I really wished to follow.

You guys watch the game a lot and see every team. I'm only focusing on one team.
I admit, I have a bland opinion. This is why I enjoy discussing baseball on D2jsp.

It helps me understand some of the big money being thrown around.
One day, we'll have to pay our good young players big money and that scares me.

Heyward had a monster season his rookie year too?

Nice double standard...

Once again it's not all about offense.

Correa 0.6 WAR on defense LOL (Heyward 1.3 higher in this department alone)
Worse than Andrus^

LOL!!! clutch!!!!

He had hit two home runs in that game to help provide a 6-2 lead. That error was costly.
During the regular season he had flashed amazing defensive plays. The routine plays he made errors on.

But like I said, I'm going to start following WAR and appreciating all aspects of somebody's game.

Profar, now you brought up old wounds.
I was trying to get over that Game 4 loss in the 2015 ALDS!

We just needed six outs to eliminate the Royals. Unbelievable. And they went on to win the World Series. Going into 2016, I'm not even sure if the Royals are the best team. The Red Sox and Rangers (healthy Yu Darvish back) scare me more.

That guy on the MLB Network said if the Astros had Ken Giles in October they'd have won the 2015 World Series.
Well, they'd probably have eliminated the Royals in Game 4 (3-1 series wrapped up) up 6-2 in the top of the 8th.

But I'm not sure if we'd have beaten the Blue Jays in the ALCS.
The Blue Jays or Mets would have won the 2015 World Series.

Our bullpen (in that game), along with that Carlos Correa error, cost the Blue Jays or Mets the 2015 World Series title.

PM me if Jason Heyward signs with somebody this evening. I'm eager to know who lands him: Angels, Cubs or Cardinals were in hot pursuit. I was following the MLB Network 24-7 the past few days but I'm tired now. I'm going to rest and not watch it for 10 or so hours.

I have a new found respect for Jason Heyward. I'm eager to see the contract he can land.
Everybody was saying in the $160 to $200 million range. Chump change for a rich owner.

Ryan shut the hell up. You always make yourself look stupid.

OMG CARLOS CORREA HAD MORE HOME RUNS.
He also had like a 25% HR/FB rate.

E: doesn't drive in enough runs?! Lmao. Rbis is entirely based on opportunity.

This. Heyward has also played his entire career in two very pitcher friendly home ballparks in the NL, while correa plays in a park built for soft homeruns down the line and he's in the AL with more talent around him.

friggen o'day. was so frustrated with him when he was on the angels, goes on to become one of the better relievers in the MLB.
4 years/31m with O's

edit: this was cool to read, just came across it.

Darren O'Day reached into his locker Tuesday, looking for the right cap. There was the cap he would wear for batting practice, and then there was the one he would wear for the All-Star game.

O'Day is 32, a relief pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. The road to his first All-Star game was long and challenging, and he wanted to share the journey with an old friend.

So he grabbed a marker, turned his game cap upside down, and wrote this beneath the bill: NA 34.

O'Day started his career with the Angels, where he formed a close bond with a minor league teammate named Nick Adenhart.

In 2009, Adenhart threw six scoreless innings in his fourth major league start. O'Day sent him a congratulatory text message, but he never heard back. Not long after the game, Adenhart and two friends died when their car was hit by a drunk driver.
Adenhart was 22.

"Losing his friendship and the joy of watching him pitch was tough," O'Day said. "He had just started to show how talented he really was."

O'Day visited Adenhart's grave two weeks after his death, even in the middle of baseball season. He remains in touch with Adenhart's mother and stepfather. And, six years after Adenhart died, O'Day still inscribes each of his caps with NA 34 (Adenhart's uniform number), still remembers his friend.

"Every day," O'Day said. "Every time I take my hat off. Before an inning. "God Bless America." There are quiet moments in a stadium, even when there are 40,000 people there.

"I get to play a game for a living. It's easy to forget how blessed we are and take it for granted. I think about him. It just helps me through it."

I remember when we claimed him off waivers and went beastmode.
