After seeing the replays and hearing the analysis, I'm leaning toward the viewpoint that the umps got the call wrong on the original slide. It should have been deemed an illegal slide.

If MLB wants to get this retaliation throwing/fighting out of the game (which they seem to want) then they should take care of the issues themselves.

Football has the new rule where 2 unsportsmanlike penalties results in ejection. I think that baseball should move that direction. Ejection should be on the table as on option to umps to consider in reaction to plays that are known as being likely to cause injury. If Austin had been ejected, then the Sox couldn't have thrown at him. That would sidestep the problem.

This couldve all been avoided if the umps got the call right... oh well. Fucking entertaining as shit. Almost as good as the yankees/tigers (i think) game last year.
