only because I don't believe the Tigers will actually sell. They are within striking distance of the second wild-card spot. The Twins are going to fall apart down the stretch and lose it. The Astros or Angels, whichever finishes in 2nd place in the AL west, will likely run away with the first wild-card spot.

So you want to give up more/better prospects for a rental in David Price than you would for a controllable Hamels is that what I got out of the first sentence?

I'd be more inclined to give up the farm for somebody like David Price. He's as good as there is in the game. Cole Hamels had recently given up 14 earned runs in 6.1 innings over his two previous starts before his magical no-hitter. But those two big obstacles remain with David Price. 1) I doubt the Tigers will sell and 2) David Price will command the biggest contract in baseball this winter. Or at least as much as what Max Scherzer received from the Nationals last winter. Likely more.

I didn't say it.

But I do agree, that's probably the stupidest statement I've read in quite some time.

Price doesn't win you a championship, Hamels does.
