the mexicans are pressured to devote their whole childhood to baseball as a means to improve their life. Of course you are going to see some great prospects come out of a system like that.

But when you get to the highest level where every player is already a millionaire, then you see the true nature of baseball present itself. Pasty white dudes like Greg Maddux rise to the top by spending their free time studying videos of opponent tendencies. Gifted mexicans like Jose Fernandez can't let go of their spicy personalities long enough to focus on being a professional.
