Yes I know that's how FA contracts work, but once the contract is over you don't get to go back and say "well he was a bargain before the contract so it's not so bad" .
I never said you can justify it that way, but he's talking about how shitty he was after signing the contract extension, well what about before? Howard served the Phillies BEFORE that contract (and helped bring a CHAMPIONSHIP to this city), Pujols didn't serve the Angels in his prime he was on the Cardinals then. The Angels got Pujols past his prime and still paid him a stupid amount of money, and he's nowhere near as good as he once was (though still a pretty good hitter but not worth $25-30M rofl).
Point being, people can bitch as much as they want about Howard's contract but nobody was bitching when he was hitting .313 with a .425 OBP, mashing 58 home runs and 150 RBI winning MVP while making $900k. He was a vital part of bringing this city a Championship, and at the end of the day he is appreciated for what he has done. You can't blame the guy for signing a contract of that magnitude considering what he accomplished prior to that when he AVERAGED 50 HR's and 143 RBI's per season in his first 4 full season in the majors.
Anyways, Phillies are in good position now and the Angels are not. Just like Hamels shits on and has always shit on Weaver, the Phillies > Angels now and for the next 5+ years so deal with it.
