yea i dont understand this policy for pitchers. everyday player gets 4 games, thats 4 games.
starting pitcher get 9, why 9? why not 5, 6, 7, or 8. makes no difference for him. starting pitchers should have like a 1, 2, or 3+ start suspension... not days.

edit: and seriously why just 9? why not go 10, make it 2 starts at the LEAST he misses. make it 9 so he can start the day after the suspension. so stupid.

How would you expect them to enforce a "2 start suspension"? Teams start pitchers whenever they want. If I was the Royals and Ventura received a "2-start suspension," I'd just have him "start" the next two games and be done with it before he even missed a start.

/edit: at least, that's what I'd do if I actually wanted him to play.... I'd be more than fine with him missing two starts here. Maybe Yost will do it anyway.

they made it 9 days because they enforced it the day after the next game following his start

so
Ventura start
(1 game)
1
2
3
4 (this would be his start)
5
6
7
8
9 (this would be his start)

math is hard

but then a player appeals it and drops the appeal immediately after making his next start, making it to where he misses only 1 single start

at that point, math doesnt matter

That's what I'd do at least.

Even if I didn't do that, would be easy for the manager to move his start back a day (specifically, if the player is an Ace). If there is a day the team doesn't play, they could even switch the next two in the rotation since it wouldn't affect the amount of rest given to the other pitchers. There's tons of ways of working around it.

this was more to my point..
the appeals for SP really make them not ever miss more than 1 start.

Don't take away the bean ball.
Ventura is a douche but it's been a few years now that Machado has deserved a good plunking.
