yea its amazingly sad. i think we all thought (at elast i know i did) that our offense would be so much better than this. There is still plenty of time to go, but its been pretty abysmal so far.
Britton is a beast though, my yankees friend tried telling me that "all rookies" always pitch good against the yankees. Fuck that noise. Britton is just legit.
I was pretty high on the rotation and thought they would be good (of course I was called a homer by most on this site) but I never expected them to have a 3.86era with Matusz out the entire season so far. I definitely thought the hitting would be much better but it's getting to the point that I'm worried. Lee is now hurt just as he started to hit, Hardy has been solid, Vladdy has been solid, and Reynolds has been terrible. Just when Reynolds looks like he might be about to break out he looks lost the next game. What really hurts is not one of them has lived up to expectations (too soon to tell with Hardy since he missed so many games) and Vlad is the only one that is close to what we expected (I thought he would hit a few more HR but the average is fine). The bullpen has really been the spot that has my mind blown. JJ looks so great 4 out 5 games but in that 1 game he is bad he is awful. Berken started well, then was horrendous, but now is doing OK. Gregg and Gonzalez have been terrible. I didn't expect much from Gregg but I did think Gonzalez was going to be a solid late inning guy after he finished last season so strong. Uehara has been solid. Accardo has been OK but not as good as I hoped. You can't blame him for last night's loss (no way he should ever come out for a 3rd inning he can barely make it through 2 innings he is a 1 inning reliever). What really hurt the bullpen (IMO) more than we ever imagined was not having Simon and his ability to pitch multiple innings. Without him we were forced to watch Rupe serve batting practice to hitters.
Still though, our rotation currently has the 13th best ERA in baseball and we haven't had the guy who we all saw as our best pitcher coming into the season pitch a game yet. If they can keep pitching well, who knows, maybe the offense will finally come around.
