Wish Cano would have got the silver slugger.

Love the trade. Walker has potential, but he tweets about Pokemon Go and shit, and there's no way he has enough time to work on baseball and play that much Pokemon in the day. Seriously though, I think it is a mental/work ethic issue with Walker, and instead of waiting for him to figure it out they need to win before Cano and Cruz fall apart physically. If Walker figures it out, and Marte stops sucking (which I think has a higher possibility than Walker figuring it out) then it may end up being an uneven trade (if Segura doesn't pan out too of course and haniger only ends up being a 4th outfielder, which seems to be his floor.). But I'm more pleased with the M's side of the deal as it stands now.

Now Dipoto will have to trade or sign for pitching to bolster the rotation and bullpen, not just the bullpen.

I can't wait for spring man.

Interesting.. At first look I thought it was a good sell high by Arizona

At the plate, Segura had a good rookie campaign, two terrible years after that, and then an explosion in production last year, so it could turn out that it is a good selling high situation by Arizona like you think. But given each team's goals in 2017, I think it's a good calculated risk to bank that those two years may be the anomaly/sophmore slump and was a lot of him trying to put it together. I doubt he will match last year's results, but if he is a solid 750+ ops bat with 20 or 30+ sb's, like his rookie year, then I think with what the M's are trying to do next year the deal will be a success, as long as Walker doesn't explode into an ace. The excuses being thrown out for Segura online, is that the sudden death of his 9 month old baby in the middle of his 2nd year in the league fucked with his head and the lingering effects could have turned those two down years into an aberration. Who knows about that though. Plus, Mitch Haniger is the real wild card in the deal for the M's. If he is what Dipoto hopes he is, he could shore up one of the corner outfield spots, which the M's really really need.

Personally, I was never a fan of Walker outside of his live fastball, so I'm glad we traded him sooner than later. Too much flash and not enough results. It could be considered as selling him low too, but I think he may not ever rise to "top prospect" status again. He may have peaked in trade value 2 years ago.

Like I said, I think Marte has a better chance than Taijuan to actually do something with his potential. But Marte's potential is a very low ceiling compared to Walker, plus he was a worse of a failure as a starter than Walker last year. I just don't think Walker has the will or attitude to put consistency to his amazing talent. Then again, a change of scenery might light a fire under Walker's ass and he could become an ace just as easily if he develops his off speed stuff and command. After the M's sent him to the minors mid-season last year, he had one of his best games on his return.

Cano and him have a mutual friend. He also helped him in the 15-16 off season.

Also more about the death of the baby stuff

Well you're a new face, sir or madam, glad to see there's more people on the internet who are martyrs like us.

I like that you aren't afraid to speak your thoughts when if it isn't the common thought.

Personally I didn't like the trade at first because I loved the young Prince, but that could be me trying to find the next Felix which is probably a fool's errand. There are a couple of things that makes me like this trade though. First off I like the fourth outfield depth, I think if you get a bunch of guys who can play all three positions and are various handedness it will make it flexible and nice to platoon while giving days off for a healthy team. It will also add depth so an injury isn't fatal to the team, like JDP has done for us consistently. Then I also like it because Segura has always had intrigue to me, even more now that his big year was spurred on by Robbie Cano helping with his swing.

Just looked it up though Segura is on his last year in the contract, that doesn't seem great for us but maybe he's willing to extend since he apparently likes Cano. He's still very young and has a nice high ceiling as he's shown.

Unfortunately I've been an M's fan my whole life, being born and raised in Seattle.

Reports say we got Segura for the next two years through 2018. Hope that's right, or I'd like the trade a lot less.

Him crediting Cano for having a part of his recent success is sweet, but being an M's fan makes me worried about that info. Those types of feel good stories tend to spell doom for snakebitten teams. But we got a new GM and new ownership, so I'll try to stay positive this time around lol.
