If Nunez is safe, then the Red Sox can tie the game without another runner reaching base safely.
If he stays on 2nd, they still need another runner to reach in order to score.
If he's out, they can still tie the game with a hit.

The next batter drawing a walk is the scenario that makes sending Nunez look like a bad decision. There are other scenarios that make it look not so bad.

Except you never advance from 2nd to 3rd on a fly ball to left field... even if you think they could try to make a play at home... they're going to throw to the cutoff at third first usually regardless.

Terrible decision, yet another example of why the Red Sox are the worst baserunning team in the game. Farrell thinks everything is swell though.
