The Astros are on pace to lose 115 games this year but the lowest moment of 2012, at least the most deflating, had to be Matt Cain's perfect game.

Cardinals win 4-2 last night. Another offensive struggle for Houston. 2 runs on 3 hits. The night before they were shut out. 110 to 115 losses is looking very likely. An outside shot to lose 120 games but that's not going to happen unless they only win three more games. LOL

39-85 record now. 6 losses in a row and they're going to get swept by the Cardinals tonight so you may as well make it 7 losses in a row (86 overall).

Astros 39-85
Cubs 47-76
Rockies 49-73

The Cubbies are trying to make that late-season push to the first overall pick in the 2013 draft but the Astros are just running away with it. The Rockies are just about out of it the way they've been winning some games lately.

Congrats to Kyle Lohse last night. Not that it's hard to beat the Astros but he made some team history for St. Louis.

Kyle Lohse improved to 13-2 this season with a win over the Astros on Wednesday. He's only the fourth pitcher in Cardinals history to win at least 13 of his first 15 decisions in one season, joining Dizzy Dean (13-2 in 1936), Ted Wilks (14-1 in 1944) and Harry Brecheen (13-2 in 1944).

Need to keep drinking a lot of those to put this 2012 Astros season out of my mind!

I'm more excited to watch the Sugar Land Skeeters game on Saturday, so I can see Roger Clemens pitching. The Skeeters would beat the Astros!

Give 'em hell, Rocket! If he has a good outing maybe he'll make another MLB comeback for 2013 at 50 years old. He would help the Astros sell tickets and would probably put up better numbers than any of our young starters as the team makes the move to the American League West. He can help mentor Jarred Cosart, Mark Appel and Paul Clemens -- three young pitching phenoms who we should have on the big league roster next year. The Astros should attempt to hire him as a pitching coach if nothing else.

I was a little worried when the Astros had a 4-0 lead in the middle of the 4th but the Cardinals stormed back to win 13-5. A David Freese three-run homer in the bottom of the 4th and a Matt Holliday three-run double in the bottom of the 5th woke their bats up. Dallas Keuchel gave up 5 earned runs in 4 innings and the bullpen imploded as always. I forgot the game was being played in the afternoon today but nonetheless the Cardinals sweep Houston with ease. The Astros have now lost 7 games in a row and are 39-86. They'll be at 90 losses by the start of next week. The only positive today was all-star Jose Altuve going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

The Astros (39-86) start a three-game weekend series at New York against the Mets (57-68)

Friday: August 24, 2012 - Houston at New York Mets - 7:10 PM Eastern
Jordan Lyles (2-10, 5.70 ERA) versus Jonathon Niese (10-6, 3.49 ERA)

Saturday: August 25, 2012 - Houston at New York Mets - 1:10 PM Eastern
TBD (Astros have not named a starter) versus R.A. Dickey (15-4, 2.82 ERA)

Sunday: August 26, 2012 - Houston at New York Mets - 1:10 PM Eastern
Lucas Harrell (10-9, 4.04 ERA) versus Jeremy Hefner (2-5, 5.11 ERA)

We're pretty much staring another sweep, 10 losses in a row and a 39-89 record (50 games under .500) in the face. I don't even think it matters who the Astros decide to start against R.A. Dickey on Saturday because it's going to be a quick and easy complete game shutout for Dickey. The only question is will the ballgame end in under two hours?

The good news is two of the games are daytime games and I can do something else with my time during the evening like watching the Texans pre-season game against the Saints and Roger Clemens pitching for the Sugar Land Skeeters -- the best baseball team in Houston. It's kind of funny but I'd much rather have the 50-year-old Roger Clemens facing R.A. Dickey on Saturday Night instead of pitching for the Skeeters.

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane would entertain the idea of Roger Clemens pitching the final month of the season with the team.

In an interview with FOX 26 Sports in Houston, Crane said he would seek approval from Major League Baseball before entering serious contract negotiations with Clemens, who currently has a personal services contract with the Astros.

Clemens, who won seven Cy Young Awards as the game’s top pitcher during his 24 major league seasons, is making his professional baseball comeback Saturday night with the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League.

“The only thing we don’t want to do is make it a publicity stunt,” Crane said of Clemens’s potential signing. “If we did it, I want to try and take it and turn it into a positive, which would be Roger’s doing it for the good of baseball.

“The extra proceeds on the game might go to the [Astros’] community charity deal to build [baseball] fields, do something positive out of it.”

Clemens is being non-committal, at least publicly, about an imminent return to the majors, where he won 354 games and made about $160 million US. His 4,672 strikeouts are third-most and he was named to 11 all-star games.

"I'm 50 years old. We're just going to go out and have fun with this and make it fun for the fans," said Clemens.

"I've been to the major leagues and back a couple of times. I've retired and unretired, so I wouldn't consider thinking that far ahead. I'm just going to try to get through Saturday.”

Clemens had two great seasons with the Astros after he turned 40, going 18-4 with a 2.98 earned-run average in 2004 to win his record seventh Cy Young Award. He was 13-8 with a career-low 1.87 ERA in 2005.

The 2013 Hall of Fame ballot will include Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, Mike Piazza, Craig Biggio and Curt Schilling. I'm hoping that Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio can both make it in together. I think they have a good chance despite the other big names.
