slap hitter. His slg. % has never been over .400.

We don't need sluggers, we got plenty of those, we need fast people who can get on base and play good defense, which Bourn provides, but then again even a pitcher hitting for Schafer is an upgrade

Minor league action, this Ahmed kid we drafted is starting to look pretty good

Quote
Mauro Gomez homered for the third straight day, while Andrelton Simmons and Brandon Drury extended their hitting streaks.

Gwinnett Braves 7, Louisville Bats 6

Tyler Pastornicky SS 2-5, 2 RBI, .357 AVG
Mauro Gomez 1B 1-3, HR (18), 2 RBI, BB, .279 AVG
Jeff Fiorentino CF 2-4, .259 AVG
JC Boscan C 2-4, RBI, .200 AVG
Mike Minor 6 IP, 6 R, 3 ER, 10 H, 0 BB, 4 K, 3.18 ERA
Stefan Gartrell saw his homer streak end, but Mauro Gomez homered for the third straight day. Gomez has a 4 game hitting streak going, yet he's just 4-15 in that span. Tyler Pastornicky continued his hot start with the G-Braves, with 2 hits and 2 RBI, and he's now 5-14 in AAA. Mike Minor allowed a bunch of hits, but his defense also let him down, as he was charged with 3 unearned runs. Over his last 2 starts, the lefty has allowed 4 earned runs over 12 innings while striking out 11 and walking 2.

The team with head to Norfolk Friday where Todd Redmond will face the Tides.

Mississippi Braves 9, Jacksonville Suns 8, 10 innings

Myke Jones CF 1-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, BB, .227 AVG
Antoan Richardson LF 2-5, 2B, HR (1), 4 RBI, .308 AVG
Matt Kennelly C 3-5, E (9), .261 AVG
Paul Clemens 5 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 6 K, 3.97 ERA
Arodys Vizcaino 1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 K, 3.88 ERA
An Ed Lucas sac fly in the top of the 10th inning sealed the win for the M-Braves. Antoan Richardson's first home run since 2008 was a big one, as he hit a 4th innings grand slam. Myke Jones clubbed out his 5th homer of the year, and he's one a roll, going 9-29 with 6 doubles, a homer, 6 RBI, and 5 walks in his last 8 games, though he's also struck out 12 times in those games. Matt Kennelly is 4-10 in his last 2 games. Paul Clemens allowed 4 runs over 5 innings, and after putting up a 2.08 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP in 60.2 innings in April and May, he's put up a 6.75 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP in 41.1 innings in June and July.

Lefty Luis Avilan will face the Suns on Friday.

Lynchburg Hillcats 1, Salem Red Sox 7

Andrelton Simmons SS 1-4, .306 AVG
Keenan Wiley RF 1-2, BB, SB (12), .287 AVG
Blaine Sims 4.2 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 2 K, 3.50 ERA
Mark Lamm 1.1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K, 3.38 ERA
Andrelton Simmons extended his hitting streak to 12 games, which was the only real highlight for the Hillcats. Mark Lamm, a 23 year old righty out of Vanderbilt the Braves drafted this year in the 6th round, pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and for the year he has a 1.93 ERA, a 0.64 WHIP, and 13.5 K/9 in 4.2 innings between Danville and Lynchburg.

Aaron Shafer will pitch game 2 of the series tomorrow.

Rome Braves 3, Delmarva Shorebirds 2

Tommy La Stella 2B 3-4, 3B, RBI, .237 AVG
Ryan Weber 3 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K, 2.68 ERA
Chasen Shreve 4 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 3.53 ERA
In his last 3 games, Tommy La Stella has gone 6-10 with 2 triples, and RBI, and a walk. Chasen Shreve has now made 4 consecutive scoreless appearances, pitching 12.2 innings and striking out 15 in that span.

Aaron Northcraft will pitch the series finale tomorrow.

Danville Braves 5, Burlington Royals 4

Nick Ahmed SS 2-5, 2 SB (7, 8), .269 AVG
Kyle Kubitza DH 2-4, 3B, RBI, .280 AVG
Brandon Drury 3B 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, SF, .360 AVG
Lucas La Point 5 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 10 H, 0 BB, 1 K, W (2), 2.38 ERA
Joe Lucas 1.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K, SV (4), 0.00 ERA
Brandon Drury drove in a pair of runs and extended his hitting streak to 6 games. Nick Ahmed hit 2 singles and stole 2 bases. Over his last 9 games, he's hit .308 with a .400 OBP and a .836 OPS. Joe Lucas, a 6'5" 22 year old righty the Braves drafed in the 45th round last season, has excelled as Danville's closer, picking up 4 saves in 0 appearances without allowing an unearned run, striking out 4. He only pitched 5 innings last season, but also didn't allow an earned run in any of those.

Greg Ross is scheduled to pitch against Burlington tomorrow.

GCL Braves 11, GCL Blue Jays 10

Nick Lobanov DH 2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, .323
Troy Snitker C 2-5, RBI, .196 AVG
Felix Marte RF 3-5, 2B, RBI, .260 AVG
Hector Garcia CF 2-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 SB (2, 3), .162 AVG
Frank Lafreniere 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K, W (2), 4.40 ERA
Felix Marte had a 3 hit day, and the 20 year old Dominican is 6-10 in his last 3 games, which has raised his average from .206 to .260. Hector Garcia had a great day, as the 19 year old Columbian hit 2 doubles, drove in 3 runs, and stole 2 bases. Nick Lobanov continues to make great strides in his first year as a position player, as the 22 year old Russian is hitting .323 with a .836 OPS through 31 at bats. In the first week of the season, Troy Snitker hit .375 with a 1.269 OPS, but since then he's hit just .125 with a .361 OPS.

Unfortunately i have the same feeling, i also feel like Stubbs will do well, because he is a really good player just k's a lot, and JJ isn't a strikeout pitcher

that being said i think we take our walks vs Arroyo and score some runs
