It sickens me to be honest. He's played his whole career here, why trade him with only 1 year remaining to get absolutely nothing in return? Just bad business sense... the fans will also be upset, including myself.

Definitely getting the short end of the stick imo.. Eating more than half his salary?

The Rangers also continue to pursue re-signing free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton, and they remain interested in being part of a multiple-team trade involving the D-backs that could bring outfielder Justin Upton to Texas. If the Rangers can re-sign Hamilton and/or acquire Upton, it would allow them to move Nelson Cruz to designated hitter.

Yes, please get Cruz out of the field!

When are the Rangers going to make a move?

Greinke is gone, so no rotation upgrades coming.
Michael Young was traded to finally clear a spot to get Cruz out of the outfield, but we still need to fill his vacant spot. Will they push harder for J.Upton now?
Will they get Hamilton under contract soon?
There is still so much to address this offseason, so the delay is frustrating. Still need to address:
Catcher - Soto is definitely not a long term solution, especially without a defined back-up in place.
Bullpen - they made a great acquisition in Soria, but still have other holes to fill.
Middle Infield - with Andrus, Kinsler, and Profar battling for 2 spots, who gets moved or traded?
First Base - with Napoli and Young gone, Moreland is shouldering a big load, unless they decide to move Olt to first base vs. lefties.
Center Field - Do you feel confident in a Gentry/Leonys/Murphy platoon?

Supposedly they are interested in a trade for Dickey (Don't really like the idea myself), they were talking about needing a guarantee of more than one season in order to trade one of our better prospects.
Hopefully they will get Upton and/or Hamilton soon, I don't really like all this waiting due to Hamilton 'testing the market'. Also mentioned Swisher will probably be the consolation prize if we can't land either.
Pierzynksi is probably the best FA choice still on the market. He had a great 2012 season, maybe if we can get him on a 1 year basis for now I wouldn't argue.
That Lindblom guy I guess will be in our bullpen Opening Day, with Bonilla in the Minors. After a few small acquisitions but losing some major ones, we are definitely going to need another reliable 8th inning guy who can in some situations, close. Maybe Valverde or Soriano?
I think Andrus may be off the market for the time being, but Kinsler will probably be moved to either 1st base or OF, providing what moves the Rangers are able to make.
I've always loved Murphy, and Gentry has really grown on me. Leonys is young and still has a lot of improvements to make, but I think they can get the job done. I love Murph in the OF and his bat, he is a very reliable player.

Rangers acquire C Eli Whiteside in waiver claim from Toronto
Team has also signed INF/OF Brandon Snyder to minors contract as non-roster invite to Spring Training

The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has acquired catcher Eli Whiteside in a waiver claim from Toronto. Additionally, the team has re-signed infielder/outfielder Brandon Snyder to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

Whiteside, 33, has now been claimed on waivers by three different clubs this offseason. He had been acquired by Toronto in a waiver claim from New York-AL on December 3 after the Yankees had designated him for assignment on November 28. The Yankees acquired him in a waiver claim from San Francisco on November 5. Whiteside had been arbitration-eligible for 2013, but signed a contract with the Yankees on November 24, which makes him a signed player for next season.

He spent the bulk of last year with Triple-A Fresno in the San Francisco organization, batting .224 (45-201) with one homer and 20 RBI. He had two stints with the Giants, July 18-31 and Aug. 26-end of season, going 1-for-11 in 12 games. He has a career .215 average over 208 Major League games with Baltimore (2005) and San Francisco (2009-12). Whiteside was a member of the Giants' postseason rosters in 2010, but did not appear in any of the club's three series that year. As a rookie, the Mississippi native was behind the plate for Jonathan Sanchez's no-hitter on July 10, 2009 vs. San Diego.

Snyder, 26, was not tendered a 2013 contract offer by the Rangers on the November 30 deadline. A member of the club's Opening Day roster, he spent five of the season's six months in 2012 with the Rangers, batting .277 with 3 homers and 9 RBI in 40 games. He was acquired from Baltimore in a January 3 trade.

With today's transactions, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster along with 13 non-roster invitations to Major League Spring Training camp.

Why would you be upset about that? Swisher is likely going to end up being the best value FA after this nutso offseason is all said and done.
