I deserve some high praise for watching every game. LOL, it's brutal to see the Astros all season long. But I usually bet against them and make that gucci as I cheer for them to lock up the 1st overall pick in the draft. I still have fun watching them play. I've seen Matt Cain toss a perfect game on them this year and nearly a no-hitter tonight by Edinson Volquez. What a stud he is. The Reds traded him as part of the Mat Latos trade. I also believe Edinson Volquez was once a Texas Ranger and included in a Josh Hamilton trade way back in the day.

The Astros start a three-game series at Arizona on Friday Night. I expect an easy three-game sweep for the Diamondbacks.

Apart from Altuve and Lowrie, whos on the DL, we have NO offense rofl

That Matt Downs infield single was such a weak check swing back to the pitcher's mound. Edinson Volquez deserved that no-hitter tonight. But a one-hit shutout is still good. The Colorado Rockies had arrived in San Diego to play the Padres during their next series, during the 2nd inning of the Astros and Padres game The three worst teams in baseball this year were all in the same city tonight. Yeah, LOL. I may as well go see a movie. I expected the game to end at midnight Houston time. Barely past 11 PM when it ended.

The Astros have scored 13 runs in 7 games since the All-Star break, hitting .159 in that span.

With the 1st pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, the Houston Astros select Mark Appel from Stanford. The hometown kid baby! Can't wait to lock him up and put together that future starting rotation of Mark Appel, Jarred Cosart, Paul Clemens and Brett Oberholtzer. I want to get rid of every starter we have now (trade Wandy Rodriguez and J.A. Happ) and maybe carry Bud Norris over as the old veteran to carry those four young guns. We have enough solid arms in the minors to put together a good rotation but we need another Major League ready arm like Mark Appel.

Position wise, we are stacked in the minors. We have solid outfielders like Ariel Ovando, Domingo Santana and George Springer. And in the infield we have Jonathan Singleton, Delino DeShields Jr. (who will make the switch from 2B to 3B) and Carlos Correa. Also Telvin Nash who can play outfield or 1st base.

The Astros are in pretty good shape for the future but right now we got to keep losing games. That 1st pick is ours!

1. Astros: 34-59
2. Rockies: 35-56
3. Padres: 39-55

The Astros have a three-game lead in the loss column over the Rockies for the 1st overall pick right now.

The Rockiies start a three-game series with the Padres tonight, while the Astros play three games at Arizona. This is our chance to run away with the 1st pick. We'll easily get swept by Arizona leaving us with 62 losses, and I could see the Rockies taking two out of three against the Padres - leaving both teams with 57 losses. A five-game lead in the loss column after this weekend would be so freakin' huge.

Very good trade for Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow. Now all he has to do is get a boat load back in return for Wandy Rodriguez and Brett Myers (fingers crossed).

LOL, I was just saying in my above post to trade J.A. Happ and Wandy Rodriguez and an hour or so later Happ is traded for a boat load of players.

Quote
The Blue Jays, whose pitching staff has been decimated by injuries this season, received left-hander J.A. Happ and right-handers Brandon Lyon and David Carpenter. The Astros acquired two Major League players -- reliever Francisco Cordero and outfielder Ben Francisco -- as well as four Minor Leaguers: right-handers Asher Wojciechowski and Joe Musgrove, left-hander David Rollins and catcher Carlos Perez. The Astros also will receive a player to be named later.

"This is a very good deal for us," Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said. "Once again we are adding depth to our Minor League system with quality young players. We really feel this will help us moving forward and are extremely excited about the players we've added to our organization."

Wojciechowski and Musgrove were ranked by MLB.com as Toronto's 10th and 11th top prospects, respectively. Wojciechowski, 23, was the 41st pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and put up a 7-3 record and 3.57 ERA in 18 starts for Class-A Dunedin this season. The 19-year-old Musgrove was picked 46th overall in the 2011 Draft and is 1-1 with a 3.51 ERA over two pro seasons.

Rollins, 22, was 10-1 with a 2.46 ERA in 25 starts over two professional season in the Blue Jays' system, and the 21-year-old Perez was batting .269 with five homers and 40 RBIs for Class A Lansing this year.

I'm more excited about Happ being gone (one so-so prospect for him would have made me happy), but it seems the Astros came away like bandits in this trade. If the Astros got so much for Happ, I can't imagine what they can get for Wandy Rodriguez, who is a much better starter.

FWIW: I never liked Brandon Lyon (wanted Lyon gone a few years ago) and David Carpenter sucks horribly so those two included with Happ is like nothing to me. Toronto's pitching is only going to get much worse with those guys on board but enjoy!

astros got a nice batch of prospects, but they got nothing as far as mlb ready talent right now

ben francisco is nothing more then a bench player with little to no power and not even an average contact bat
cordero is like 50 years old and doesnt even close anymore ?

you guys have brett myers anyway?

jackzorz, Astros GM Jeff Luhnow believes Asher Wojciechowski can make the Astros team at the end of next year.

Here is the full press conference with Jeff Luhnow from Astros.com

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow on the prospects the team received in Friday’s trade with Toronto:

On RHP Asher Wojciechowski (who will be sent to AA Corpus Christi): “I had a chance to scout Wojo at Citadel and really like his stuff. He’s got a plus fastball and also throws strikes. He’s repeating the Florida State League for the second year in a row. His numbers have gotten better. We’re going to go ahead and challenge him and send him straight to Corpus Christi. I have some experience with drafting players from the Citadel. They’re all high-character hard workers and I really like that aspect of it. I expect he’s going to fit in really well in our system. We need arms. … Depending on how he finishes the year in AA, is a guy we would consider bringing to camp next year and exposing him to our major league staff. I can see him being in our rotation toward the end of next year”

On C Carlos Perez (who will be sent to high A Lancaster ): “We feel like catching is one of the areas where we really needed to get some more depth and some major league prospects. Perez is a guy that we believe is the type of profile we’re looking for. A guy that can produce offensively, he’s an on-base type of player and he’s defensively able to do the things we need him to do to maintain that position. Toronto has some very, very good catchers. It’s an area of richness, and we were able to take from that and it really works out for both sides. I’m excited to see Perez challenged at the next level, to go straight to our high A team and see what he can do there. Our scouts report that his defensive skills are good enough to make it to the big leagues and potentially be a regular everyday catcher.”

On LHP David Rollins (who will be sent to low A Lexington): “Rollins has been very effective. He’s on a team that has a lot of highly touted arms with the Blue Jays and he’s the youngest guy on the team and he’s done very well. We expect him to continue to do well and being lefthanded helps us out.”

On RHP Joe Musgrove (who will be sent to rookie Greeneville): “Musgrove is a young man I saw pitch in his high school days. Haven’t seen him since then and is very impressed, and when I was with St. Louis we had him pretty high on our board and didn’t have a chance to get him, so it’s always nice to get him back a little bit later. He’s been rehabbing from an ailment but he threw a side yesterday and I believe he’ll be back in games relatively quickly.”
