Hellickson was once a top prospect, minor league player of the year, and rookie of the year. He was really good his first couple years with TB. If you want another example, Ian Kennedy got 5/$70m.

I meant prolly now* not prolly not put the QO on him. If they didn't it would be foolish to have kept him and not retained anything.

With that said, if they do put the QO on him; I think he takes the 16.2 mil payday or w/e it's at now. I know it went up like $800,000.

The FA pitching is weak though so we'll see.. he's borderline imo with the market of whether he should accept it or not.

Phillies already said they going to put the QO on him if they didn't get a top 5 guy from someones system.
They said they'd rather get the draft pick than a mediocre minor leaguer for him.

So y'all can stop wondering

This is true but the CBA doesn't get negotiated until the following season I believe. Also might mark the beginning of international draft.

Being a top prospect in the minors means jackshit for a 29 year old who has a 4.50 ERA over the past 4 years.

All 3(IPK, Samardzija, Hellickson) were 29-30 when hitting FA.

Samardzija 3 seasons prior to hitting FA: 94 ERA+
Samardzija landed 5/$90m

IPK 3 seasons prior to hitting FA: 84 ERA+
IPK landed 5/$70m

Hellickson 3 seasons prior to hitting FA(assuming he keeps the same pace all of this season): 94 ERA+

So, yeah. He's definitely getting the QO and turning it down.

Samardzija had an ERA of 3.25 the previous 4 years.

Vs

4.50

Pretty big difference.

According to you ERA is the tell all for pitchers too.....

Exact same ERA+ over the 3 years prior to hitting FA. Just take the L, bro.
