Koji Uehara is officially back.

Quote
The Orioles have agreed to terms with Koji Uehara, their best relief pitcher for much of last season, on a one-year deal with a vesting option for the 2012 season, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

The exact terms aren't known, but the option won't be hard to obtain if Uehara is able to stay healthy through the majority of the season. The contract also includes some escalator clauses depending on whether Uehara is the Orioles' closer.

Looks like we're getting Hardy and Harris.

Orioles in line to get Hardy and Harris on Thursday

The Orioles likely will receive Hardy and infielder Brendan Harris for two minor leaguers, possibly right-handed relievers Jim Hoey and Brett Jacobson.

I'm okay with this.
Harris is a good defender + he can play all infield positions.

Just got done reading the articles baltimoresun, twincities, and startribune about this.

You are only okay with it? We are giving up 2 minor league relievers that likely have no major league future for a starting SS that has amazing potential and our UTIL guy. This is an amazing deal if it goes through IMO.

I'm definitely more than okay with this. I'm really glad this is happening, because honestly I was a bit weary of having Andino as our utility guy. He made so many errors in AAA this year.

I think the errors were from just not caring because he was pissed to be in AAA when he knows he should have made the team last year. There was no need to trade for Lugo at all.

Hardy is projected to have around a .750 OPS with 16 HR next season. If he can even have a .700 OPS with 13 HR next season to go along with his amazing defense he will still be a huge upgrade over Izturis.

I just hope he can stay healthy.

I think he might hit more home runs than that at OPACY. Target Field is an absolute bitch to any non-power hitter... probably why he succeeded at Miller Park.
So for Hardy's career, .267 vs. Lefties, .261 vs. Righties. If you look at proportions, he hits lefties just as well as righties.

He has power potential for a slick fielding SS. I'm not getting my hopes up though. I'm just hoping for .270ish with 10 + HR ... even that would make it a HUGE upgrade over Izturis.

MacPhail is doing work at the meetings I will give him credit. He significantly upgraded 3B and SS by trading only trading relief pitchers. Two of them are unlikely to have a major league future, one of them might end up a good reliever, and the other will probably end up a very good reliever.

Biggest risk is Hardy is the injury factor though. I wonder if they plan on extending him to 3 years or so. I can't imagine he would turn down a 3/21 extension considering his injury history.

I really am starting to get a good feeling about this upcoming year. Not saying we will compete or anything crazy like that but if we can get Lee or LaRoche at 1B and a good reliever or two we might finally break the streak of losing seasons.
