I think signing a Free Agents can bring in money via Ticket sales and Jersey. Resigning a guy like Trout who was under contact for 2 more seasons doesnt really bring in those dollars IMO. Where as Harper to Philly brought in Many Ticket sales and Jersey sales. Prob his first year in Salary was paid for in those first 48 hours.
I know people say that 500 Million Mark. But I dont see it. If the Highest contract was 35 Million a year, lets say Trout gets 40million. He would be 29 when he hit the market. a 10 Year deal would put him at 39. Even is at 40million thats 400, at 45 a year its 450. Would anyone really want to go into Trouts age 40, 41, 42 seasons? Look at the players around now. Cruz, Miggy, Encarnaccion, Jose Bautista. I gets all but Miggy wernt as good as trout, but none of them are 39 either. (Except I think cruz might be close) but to say Trout should have gotten 500 is just crazy. He doesnt deserve 10 Million a year more than the next player, and no way he should be getting 30 Million ages 37+
The only reason this was a 400+ deal was because they included the current 2 years on it.
**Edit*** I also think the whole, 1 Win in WAR is worth $8 Million is a joke argument, no player is worth $80 Million in a season in MLB.
so Trout's contract is actually 10 year 365?
